Great race!
Nice to see Haas’ real pace. Ferrari WTH?! I understand the weight gamble (no safety cars), but come on…

I wonder if Ferrari knew they were close on weight ? If you know you are close on weight do you tell your driver to drive offline on the cool down lap to pick up as much klag as you can to add weight ? Really nothing else a driver can do after that .

Paul, sorry long answer needed
![]() Both Ferrari cars were underweight by 1kg and both cars had under thickness planks by 0.5mm Plank is basically a fibreglass/phenolic resin laminated slab that is machined flat, bolted to the chassis and closest part of the car to the ground Does 2x things, prevents the bottom of the floor/chassis rubbing away and limits the teams running the car too low to squeeze out more aero performance Planks have flush titanium skid blocks which are limited in surface area and strategically positioned to protect legality holes where the FIA measure wear ie minimum plank thickness Can't remember the exact rules but the plank is a specified size eg 300mm wide, front edge and rear edge specified, max. thickness 11mm, min thickness 9mm. Material density between 1300kg/m3 and 1450kg/m3, most teams will run higher density unless they're struggling to hit mimum weight Beliw FIA tech drawing is out of date but the principle is still the same ![]() Teams won't mind the planks being rubbed to below 9mm min. limit, they'll actually actively try to rub it down thinner scratching for aero performance, as only the thickness around FIA legality holes are measured If Ferrari are below legal limit around the legality holes they'll for sure rubbed more plank away in other areas Doesn't take much plank wear to lose a 1kg eg 300mm wide x 3m long area of 1mm wear on a 1400kg/m3 density plank is 1.25kg All teams monitor plank wear very carefully as the lower the car the more aero performance ie dozens of thickness measurements and even skid thermocouples to measure tempersture and strain guages to measure impact loads F1 is all about the finest of margins, pushing every FIA legal limit/legality test and performance parameter as close to the limit as possible Not a case of Ferrari cheating they just found out where the limit is for ride height ![]() Bad job by them, good job by the other teams, McLaren, Mercedes and RBR will be very happy as they know Ferrari will take a slightly more cautious approach to ride height which will cost them aero performance until they get the confidence back on pushing the wear limits hard |

Ferrari blames the tire wear for the 1kg... Long stint on hards... Same as Russell when he was DQ'd last year at Spa ? All in all better lose those positions than a 1-2... Now Hamilton truly has had a proper "Ferrari experience" ;-)
Fred was annoyed at the FOM radio "share" because they only broadcast Lewis taking his time letting Charles go by, but never broadcast that it was Lewis' idea in the first place and he offered to let Leclerc thru. Long season, hoping FErrari gets back up there, super happy for Albon, I wish Yuki and Hadjar had better strategy, they deserved more. Someone asked who gets fired first, Lawson or Doohan.. I hope it's not Doohan. |

The rumor is Doohan only has a contract for 5 races . No clue if that is true or not . But if it is true he only has 3 races left to prove himself . I hope he keeps his seat .

That was quick, but not unexpected. Tsunoda to Red Bull, Lawson to Racing Bulls.

It is a real welcome to Lewis to the planning and execution at Ferrari. How many ways can they shoot themselves in the foot?

I do see rumors of Red Bull supposedly trying to hire Colapinto to backfill Tsunoda . Tsunoda supposedly goes to Red Bull and Lawson stays with Red Bull as a reserve driver . But all rumors and speculation at this point . Could change in the next hour

From an Autosport forum, Die Limburger, van Haren and Canal+ have all reported the Lawson-Tsunoda news.

Yeah multiple F1 websites are reporting it's a done deal . Yuki to Red Bull and Liam to Racing Bulls . Just waiting on official word from Red Bull . If this all plays out I wonder if Liam can get it together . Time will tell but if Hadjar out performs Liam at Racing Bulls it's career game over for Liam .

Damn, even by my standards, F1 is showing the world what a brutal, ruthless sport it is if RBR demote Lawson

Captain, a long answer is what I was hoping for.
![]() Thank-you for the comprehensive explanation and the reminder of the razor thin margins that F1 teams are always up against.

On further reflection and acknowledging RB is a top team, why would anyone particularly a rookie or relatively inexperienced driver join that toxic organization. Between Horner, Marlo, Max and his dad RB is not just ruthless, it’s bordering on a mafia like organization that eats its own.

![]() I'm not a F1 plank expert but have designed a few in my time Here is a picture of the 1st one I did which Alex Wurz was kind enough to put on public display at the 1998 Candian GP while driving the Benetton B198 ![]() ![]() Think that's my 1st F1 floor too ![]() Also might have been the same year I designed a 5kg/11lb steel mounting top hat ie ballast as the FIA foolishly didn't specify a maximum area for plank to chassis mountings Idea, shamelessly stolen from Williams and a prefect example of how F1 teams exploit loopholes or vaguely written roles in the pursuit of adding car performance Not the 1st time I've helped force the FIA into writing new F1 rules ![]() |

Liam had a good video on how hard the car is to drive. It’s setup to be very front grip focused so it’s like he has to learn it, not get it setup for him. I’d be surprised if they made a change this quickly, and if they did, not sure they would be sending him to racing bulls, they need the money from them.
If Yuki tanked in the RB, and Racing bulls did do well RB would be losing to ton of money. IMHO Update: confirmed swap by Kym Illman https://youtu.be/tcLFXR_pKds?si=uGDPFeFJp1T9DrR_
