might be the ahole this year

subject says it

multiple dueling women over how christmas dinner should be (2 of the 3 are jewish), im beibg told to wear a suit (wont happen), and gift giving is sure to be a shait show since my oldest daughter has some attitude about stuff

Crap like this pops up every few years around any holiday/gathering, making me absolutely miserable, so I am usually the "a hole that ruins it" when I have had enough and either dont show up al all, or walk out and leave in middle of cooking or at some point before meal is fully served

The texts started last night about stuff, didnt sleep well in anger about all of it, half way thhru my first cup of coffee and getting madder about it so y'all get to hear about it too.

So did my middle wife.

My back is tightening up right now and this story happened the year OJ and Al were driving the white Bronco on tv. 1992, I think.

Tis the season! My family is relatively low drama but I’m always happy to return to the routine of work post Christmas. It’s great to see everybody, and even better to see them leave.

It sucks to have battling ladies for Christmas. I was lucky, and never experienced any of that.

My parents and my wife's parents all got along great. And if anyone expects me to wear a suit, they will be disappointed.

Now my parents are dead, and just my MIL is still alive and she is 92. We will go over there, and be with my wife's family. Non are big talkers, and only the great grand kids make any noise. It is pretty laid back.

I agree with your plan. If things get tense, just leave and go to a Chinese restaurant or some business that is open.

Hey OP,

I recommend watching one of my favorite movies. Office Space. Consider adopting his attitude of not giving a F. It serves me well at times when I can pull it off.

The thing is? The holidays are for enjoyment. You can't be giving good cheer to your family if they have you tied up in a knot.

Good luck. I do understand. We all have goofy, dysfunctional people in our lives.

Our family get-togethers at Christmas and Thanksgiving were pretty uneventful. Once the kids were old enough, we stayed home for Christmas, instead of traveling to Atlanta to see my parents. We still went there for Thanksgiving until a year ago, after my mom passed away.

I’m not close to my brother or two sisters, who all live in Atlanta, so I don’t see trips there anytime soon.

had my chosen family christmas last night, was fantastic. we called it the 'cule yule this year, it was great.

will be having my family christmas tomorrow, should be fun. we always keep it simple, focus on the kiddos experiences, and dont worry much about anything else. if the kids are having fun, who cares? if holidays become work you are doing it wrong and i dont want to come or host. i reject that energy.

Id10t,
If you’re going to be 'that person ', I would suggest you be proactive and send your sisters a message to the effect:
" My dear Sisters, I love you all and in hopes of maintaining that feeling, I am going to absent myself from the family get together. Each year seems to bring about a struggle among you to have everything go your way. It hurts to see people who I love so much being so unhappy at any time of year, let alone Christmas. My dearest wish for Christmas this year is for love and harmony within our family. I can't change how you feel. Hoping you can.
Love."

I have three sisters who are very strong women. Thankfully they get along. If they didn't, I would be damned certain to not be in the presence of more than one at a time.

Best
Les

Hey id10t,

Don’t be a idiot. That response is VERY unhealthy, like deadly. Best to ride out the feeling and allow it to evaporate.

It takes practice.

Your acting like a azzwhole exposes your weakness to the vultures who will invariable swoop down to make you even more mizzerable. They’re everywhere.

Presumably you don’t care about any of the details of the holiday get together and there are a few others who deeply care about it.

So let them have their day. You show up nicely dressed being pleasant- fake it as needed and stay in the background refusing to have an opinion, getting involved or taking sides.

Give the hard to shop for girl cash and be done with it.

My favorite Chrismas song ...

"I like it when they come
But I love it when they go"

Just remember, when it gets heated, you will be well served to just get up and leave. Does no one any good to get into it over the Holidays.

Have a drink and sit back marveling at the comedy of little biddies running around pissed off about whatever they found to offend them at that moment.

Probably a bit late to offer this but i grew up with a Jewish stepfather and my mother warned me against marrying into a Jewish family. She suggested the women were a tough nut to crack and failure would bring misery.

OK it's time for Flatbutt's Christmas story.

Two weeks before Christmas 2000 I was in a car crash. My injuries were severe enough that the doctors told me I might never walk again or even leave my hospital bed.

Long story short after 6 months I went home and in the following years watched my children grow up, fall in love, marry and have their own children.

I have a new life, a different life but a good one and while there are people in this life that often make me a little crazy, I remember that I could have been dead this entire time.

Happiness is a choice my brothers.

All I can recommend is to drink too much and start telling inappropriate jokes.

How about memorize and reenact the watch scene from Pulp Fiction. That will surely be a crowd pleaser!
