A Complete Unknown
Saw it last night with Mrs Choc and our son. All of us really enjoyed it despite age differences (65, 58 and 25). Dylan's song writing took it to a new level despite sharing the limelight with Elvis, Beatles, etc. Didn’t realize how Johnny Cash influenced him. Great movie…especially for those of us who grew up in that era. The movie is about his early years and transition from acoustic to electric, strained relationship with Joan Baez, etc. Highly recommended.

Planning on seeing this soon. Would IMAX be worthwhile on this?

Probably not. I’d say IMAX is better for action films. A regular big screen with good sound quality would do the trick.

I wore the grooves out of Highway 69 and Bringing All Back home, but I don't know if I'd recognize an early Dylan song if I heard it on a good quality sound system. The two just don't go together in my experience.

61. But I digress. This wasn’t original footage. The live performances recreated were very good “live” sound quality.

I think Timothée Chalamet does a remarkable job singing and playing the guitar himself as Bob Dylan.

Can remember when he went electric with Al Kopper, Mike Bloomfield and members of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, at the Newport festival. Then toured with the Hawks who later became the Band. Times were changing indeed.

I always thought that video with the cue cards was amazing and different. I'll need to watch Don't Look Back. I'll be all up to speed on Bob by late this afternoon...
Thoroughly enjoyed this. I couldn't say how well Dylan was portrayed, but from what I've read this was accurate. The cast was excellent. Nice period piece about a significant part of music history.

Interesting first-person account I read. When Dylan came offstage after playing "Like A Rolling Stone" electric in Newport 1965, he was reportedly "shocked" at the booing and a tear was supposedly rolling down his "left cheek", then he went out and played one acoustic song, "Its All Over Now, Baby Blue".
So you can find videos of both performances on Youtube. I watched "Baby Blue" and, later in the song when the light on his face is just right, you can see the track of that tear down his left cheek. Lots of people have put a lot of energy into interpreting Dylan's songs. Who is he referring to or talking to in this song, is it so-and-so or such-and-such? I think they often get it wrong, because Dylan is - in my view - often referring to and talking to himself. "Baby Blue" is one example.
