Location filming at our farm

I know the brain trust here will have advice. We've got filming going on on our place for some horror movie. I wasn't in charge of negotiations, another partner was. Which means he has the contract and hasn't printed out yet for the rest of us.

My questions:
Is it normal for filming schedules to be set and not followed?

We negotiated a price for a certain areas, times and what they could access and now they are using more and not following what we agreed to. Should we be asking for more $?

They've run over some landscaping and nicked a retaining wall. We'll repair ourselves. They say they'll pay for it. Do we wait and bill for everything or get them to pay now?

And they have a blacked out Audi SUV, should I be worried?

I don't know anything about the film industry but a contract is a binding agreement and they should be abiding by what is in the contract.

Nope but make sure you keep an eye on them.

Pelican contributors who work in the industry should advise you about any additional financial arrangements.

Nope. Not sure the stars of this movie are. They told us but I'd never heard of them

Once I see the contract I'll know more. If there is ever a filming again I'll be in charge. That's why I've asked the brain trust here for somethings to remember for the future.

Two of the partners are meeting with the producer right now to go over tonight's filming. I've been "asked" to stay in the house.

Since no one else has said it, I'll say it.

At this point I'd be more concerned with how your "partners" are treating you than the film crew.

I think while I was ‘staying in the house’ I would be having a chat with my lawyer.

Exactly!!!

You should not "stay in the house"!!! You are a partner and should be informed first hand of what is going on. I would have a hard time of "staying in the house" that's for sure!!!

Partners are family. That's a whole other thread.

I was a Director of Photography for over 30 years and have been on location in almost every state. While I was never involved with the contracts I can tell you.

Nothing ever goes on time or schedule.
We never ever under stepped our bounds.
We almost always broke or damaged something.

What is the lawyer going to do with no legal contract to even review?
What does a professional do with nothing at all? Bill you for their time?
(hint: Yes. Yes they will.)

One partner unilaterally signed a contract, for 'all of you', and is now 'not sharing'.
And they had the if authority to do so.
And the extended schedule is now over agreement.

A judge might ask your beef is with this partner first: If they had the right to act for all of you.
The person of authority is the only one who can make decisions based upon the collective agreement affecting yourself.
Everything else is internal.
Good luck.

Or if if the money is good, and it's not a problem, then it is not a problem...

There are too many unknowns for anyone to provide qualified information here.

Is the place a bit rough, cobwebs, creaking floorboards, a few skeletons lying around.

Just say to them, no Alec Baldwins allowed on site and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Filming finished at 4:30 this morning. cast trailers, portapotties, catering tent and a tone of other stuff gone. With on truck for rest of props, pickup and such. They're cleaning up the trash and stuff. We've got some prop bloody pieces and what looks like broken water balloons on the ground.

We're presenting a bill for the "extras" they used/accessed, minor damage to retaining walls and orchard irrigation and they say they'll pay.

Scary part was some of the crew smoking and parking cars in some of our dry grass fields. We're California, fart and you start a wildfire.

We learned a lot about any future filming, mainly everyone here review contract first, make sure company gets a County film permit, and someone from the farm is observing all the time.

There's multiple partners all family with different percentages of ownership. Majority voted to allow film. We usually agree on everything but not this time.
