Awesome project Bill. I have watched many wood boat building projects on Youtube. Fascinating to me.

the original foremast from an America replica built back in "95, pic under sail is above

the wood mast weights 4tons, it was replaced by a carbon fiber version weighing 1000lbs, It needed replacement after only a few years because of a little dry rot and the ministrations of an 18yr old crewman w/ a sabersaw
the end is just sticking out near the floor

sort of, all the weight is on the keel blocks the tripods are just for balancing and are slightly angled
