jeep ads in car when stopped... really?

Sheesh....

Via Slashdot -

https://tech.slashdot.org/story/25/02/11/0016258/jeep-introduces-pop-up-ads-that-appear-every-time-you-stop

Quote:
"In-dash advertising is here and Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram, beat everyone to further en****tification," writes longtime Slashdot reader sinij. "Ads can be seen in this video." From a report:
In a move that has left drivers both frustrated and bewildered, Stellantis has introduced full-screen pop-up ads on its infotainment systems. Specifically, Jeep owners have reported being bombarded with advertisements for Mopar's extended warranty service. The kicker? These ads appear every time the vehicle comes to a stop. Imagine pulling up to a red light, checking your GPS for directions, and suddenly, the entire screen is hijacked by an ad. That's the reality for some Stellantis owners. Instead of seamless functionality, drivers are now forced to manually close out of ads just to access basic vehicle functions.

One Jeep 4xe owner recently shared their frustration on an online forum, detailing how these pop-ups disrupt the driving experience. Stellantis, responding through their "JeepCares" representative, confirmed that these ads are part of the contractual agreement with SiriusXM and suggested that users simply tap the "X" to dismiss them. While the company claims to be working on reducing the frequency of these interruptions, the damage to customer trust may already be done.

That would be the grounds for selling the thing, and setting a different car for me.

It is an issue I will never have in my 80s vehicles.

Seems there ought to be a way to cancel Sirius XM. Not sure, in this age of streaming, why anyone would have it anyway.

They wouldn't have to do this if you replied when they tried to contact you about the extended warranty!

Sort of misleading article as it specifically applies to SiriusXM only. I wouldn't listen to satellite radio (or any radio) even if they paid me to.

About the third time this happened to me, the freaking car would be gone. Period!

Maybe if Stellantis built better cars, they would not have to push so hard for profits thru overpriced extended warranties and make their nut on volume.

That is my understanding. Do you know if the ads only pop up if you are using SiriusXM?

I had 3 month of SXM and bought another 3 month's for a dollar. Rarely used it so I canceled after the 6 months.

Honda/Acura currently doesn't have ads on their infotainment.

I have it and use it in 2 of my vehicles.

Is this a Chrysler thing or a XM thing? I am not seeing ads in my 24 tundra with XM.

Why do I use XM? I drive in the mountains every Saturday and Sunday in the winter. There is no cell coverage and no radio coverage.

Listening to the same old stream off my phone or the crappy Alanis Morriset CD my wife put in the Tundra gets old.

To cancel it only takes a few minutes. When you log in to cancel they will make a new offer at an even lower price. Simple, painless.

I would hate not having Sirius XM in my Civic SI
Haven't seen any ads on it.

I had Sirius for about 10 years and then they started screwing up my yearly subscription. Sad for them as I keep notes of my calls with Sirius as they have demonstrated time and again they are not trustworthy. Finally I told them I was done and cancelled my subscription. I have no regrets at all and it has been 3 years.

I listen to XM when driving on the test track. I gotta check it out and make sure everything works, ya know. I like it for the most part, but I don't have it in any of our personal vehicles.
In my daily driver, I listen to the radio, CDs, and cassettes for my musical entertainment.

My wife has XM in her Macan. No ads at all. And just the music she likes.

I just have a USB thumb drive with all 125 CDs I own ripped to it in high quality MP3 files. One for each car. I never hear anything but my music. Zero additional cost to listen to music.

I use Pandora, YouTube, and Amazon music. I have access to damn near every album or song ever released.

WHAT A PIECE OF ****. Commercial marketing has gone way too far. Will never buy a new car again if this is expected. I don't want to "partner" with the manufacturer.

Hopefully they start influencing political ideology with this wonderful capability they have developed…

If this continues to become a thing, I’m going to adopt the Glen mantra and start driving my old stuff and get rid of my modern cars.

I wouldn't buy a Stellantis POS anyway. The worst kind of American junk.

High level meeting at Stellantis:

"Sales continue on a downward trend. Anybody got any ideas?"
"Yes, Johnson. Go ahead..."

Johnson: "Why don't we try to piss off the few customers we still have?"

"Great idea! Go do it!"
