They do say to leave the seatbelts on until the plane has stopped. Quite strange.

I read 8 people injured. Out of the 80 on board that seems pretty good.

Surely could have been a lot worse if it was on take-off loaded with fuel.
I think of that every time on take-off.

15 injured, 3 of those critically. The youngest was transported to the Hospital For Sick Kids.

Sure seems to be more than usual air travel mishaps in the news lately.

This is an interesting one, I’ve seen very little about how it happened. Saw one report that ATC was warning them about wake turbulence on final and it sounds like the weather was crap. More to come I guess.

Update from the ny post:

Eighteen people were hurt, though none of them were believed to have been badly injured, when Delta Flight 4819 crashed on landing on the snowy tarmac in Canada’s largest city, Toronto’s Pearson Airport Fire Chief Todd Aitken said at a press conference on Monday evening.

Paramedics had previously said that three people were in critical condition, including a child before Aitken shared the update.

According to one of the passengers the landing was quite violent and then the plane dug in and flipped . Supposedly the runway didn't have ice on it and wind gusts were under 40 mph . If the violent landing description is accurate I wonder if the landing gear failed on one side allowing the plane to pitch and dig in ? Eventually we will know . Thankfully it looks like everyone survived .

Based on some newer videos it looks like the plane never flares for landing and comes down very hard. They probably were lucky that the wings severed, removing the fuel from the cabin. Amazing that nobody was killed.

Some discussion here https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/1is1qoy/video_of_feb_17th_crash/
about the lack of flare, apparently pretty common in crj.
It obviously impacted hard enough to fail the gear...wind shear? Or short of threhold?

18 people were transported to hospitals, but three of those were family members accompanying injured.
As said above: keep that seat belt fastened until the aircraft has come to a complete stop.
(And try not to land on your head when you release it!)

Winds were 23 knots gusting to 33. Hard landing, right gear collapsed, right wing dug in and they were off to the races. A miracle that it turned out relatively well.

Its Delta 4819 operated by Endeavor

I know a flight attendant who works for Endeavor....she knows some of the crew... I doubt she'll be able to share how much she learns from her friends while the investigation is ongoing...

Air travel even though its the safest form of transportation.. is getting a bit of a black eye lately

There is a very clear video of the landing I just saw on Reddit. Much better than the links above.

I'll see if I can post a link

CRJ.
Looking at that vid, it looks like a slightly hot landing, and just at touchdown a gust lifted the left wing, placing all of the impact on the right gear, which failed.
Thank god the wings snapped off-left all the fuel/fire behind.
