Do you still go to the mall or department stores?

I haven’t stepped foot in a mall in years but I do go to dept stores like Walmart, Home Depot or Lowes. Since I retired 3 years ago, I haven’t bought office clothes so that’s the last time I walked into a Macys or Nordstrom. Nowadays if I want to buy clothes, I shop at Costco. Yep I admit it, I wear Kirkland clothes now.

I went to a mall about two weeks ago. What a great place. I said to GF, "You go around the shops and I'll stay right here in the food court (butter chicken + naan bread)".

There were times in the past where I knew where all of the shops in my local malls were. I knew where to park to get to a particular store or stores in the most efficient manner.

Now, it's super rare for me to end up in a mall. I may get to a mall every once in a while, but it's rare, probably at most, once every other year.

Walmart, maybe once or twice per year (try to keep it to a minimum, especially the huge WM in Houston).

HD/Lowes, several times a year, but with the closest being 50-60 miles away, I also order stuff online from them if I can't get it from one of the small hardware stores local to me (which I prefer to do if I can).

It's probably been 5-7 years since i was in someplace like Macys or Nordstrom. If the wife takes me to one of those, I'll go.

I have a couple of pairs of jeans that I bought at one of the rural hardware stores. I think they were either $15 or $25 which is a tiny fraction of the cost of Levis. They fit well and seem to be sturdier than modern Levis (more like Levis from 40 years ago). I mostly just wear them when working in the yard or around the house, but they would be fine to wear to a store or something. I should buy a couple more pairs.

There's a rather small uninteresting mall in the next town over and if it wasn't for the Lens Crafter store in there, I'd never set foot in the place. There's quite a few empty stores and usually only a handful of people wandering around inside. In the shops that are still open for business, employees are usually just standing around staring at their phones waiting for the odd customer to wander in. It's actually kind of creepy being in there...almost like an abandoned, post-apocalyptic scene.

That being said, there's a really good cars & coffee in the parking lot on Saturday mornings...

Our wood working guild has our annual show at a mall in April, so we all joke about our once a year mall visit.

The Mall of America has a swing dance in their rotunda every couple of months, so I go to that a few times a year as well.

I will go to a mall to buy clothes if I don’t know what I want or what fits. If I’m doing a repeat buy. I will order online.

The last Sees candy store in MN closed right after Christmas. It was in a mall, so I would go there once or twice a year and buy a 3lb box (i’m not proud!). The place was always busy when I went there, so not sure why it closed.

I was “at the mall” yesterday. When the weather is poor, we go there to get in a brisk walk. We are not there to buy, nor do we go in any stores…don’t want to break the pace. If I did need to buy, I would go to the mall. I prefer to shop local.

I went for 2 things; Sears, for Craftsman tools, and whichever eyeglasses store was closest to Sears.

I have no memory of how long ago that must've been.

We like to go to a movie in a theatre once in a while. The one we normally go to is in a mall. My wife likes to look in a couple of botique stores there some times and the Van's store. I also buy most of my clothes at Costco but at my age, I've long ago given up on being picky. I buy boots. some socks, & a couple of other things at the REI store on occasion.

There's a mall here with relatively nice restaurants. So that's my reason to go.

Short answer no. Last time I was at the mall was in the fall they changed the sears into a medical building. They have been revitalizing it with new stores. They build a bjs and a giant dicks store. We went in a different entrance than the medical one. Turns out we couldnt get in. All the new stores they made are only accessible from outside! Really weird. My brothers boss bought a bunch of lifts from the closed down sears. Good lifts they still use them. I used to work for a company that had a kiosk for advertising and every year during christmas time they made us take it out. So I drove in the mall alot. I was the only one who could back the trailer in there and all the wy to where it needed to be. Walking the mall late at night when only a few people were around was fun. Now its normal and creepy

All the shopping malls around here have either been demolished or turned into this:

Sometimes, but I still have teenagers. We actually still have one really nice mall on my side of town, definitely bucking the national trend. They just built a Scheels which is fantastic for sporting gear, outdoor stuff, guns, and ammo. On the other side of Wichita there’s a mall that’s a ghost town, BUT there’s a Dillard’s clearance store that I shop at.

In Charleston, there’s the Citadel mall on the south side. I pass it by every day, but once a year I go to buy summer polo type shirts and shorts at the end of summer, because they are heavily discounted at Belk or Dillards. I enter from the outside and never go inside. They are creepy empty of customers and sales people.

If I find a shirt that fits right, I buy multiples of it in different styles. Working outside in construction, I tend to wear them out quickly.

Everything else is bought online.

Edit, they used to have a Sears there, but it must’ve closed five or 10 years ago, it’s been so long. Haven’t been there in 20-25 years.

Haven’t been to a mall in 5 years or so. I buy most of my clothes at Tractor Supply.

That's a pretty progressive mall you've got there

There was a mall, a gigantic mall, that was close to my work and I'd go over there once in a while at lunch just to have a look around. This place was built in a former Ford assembly plant, so when I say it was big, I mean BIG. The first time I went there I didn't pay attention to where I entered, so when I left, I couldn't find my car in the massive parking lot. All the many entrances/exits looked pretty much the same from the inside and I didn't leave from where I'd come in. Took me about 45 min. to finally figure out where the car was
