Remember "240 Gordy"? How about "340 Bob"?

It finally happened, literally just hours ago. Bob Tasca, first to break 340 mph.

Incredible. 1000 feet, too. Who needs that extra 320 feet of track?

The car was already over 290 at half track. That's 500 feet...

Everyone should go experience a funny car or top fuel dragster at least once. Bring your ear protection! The thump of each cylinder firing is something you can feel in your chest, and then they get down the track just in a blink.

And the fastest road car backed up a half a mile to get up to speed, that crosses the start finish just when the dragster is releasted will be beat to the finish line with that car as a dead stop.

It was. Clay Milliken went his all time quickest. Brittany Force had better step on it to get her record back.

While we're sort of on the topic, has anyone heard
what's up with Robert Hight?

He's reportedly out due to medical reasons
but all I've heard so far are wild guesses
ranging from cancer to failing a drug test.
Everyone who would know seems to be very
tight-lipped about it.

I've been wondering the same thing. Seems like a great guy, I hope he is o.k.

Lots of rumors and scuttlebutt on Robert Hight in the wind, take the following with a grain of salt:

The relationship between Hight and john force became "rocky" ever since Hight and John's oldest daughter got divorced several years ago.

Robert remained as the president of John Force racing but the situation continued to spiral and when John repeatedly criticized Robert's driving on 2023, he said F it and the decision was made to put Austin Prock (family) in the car last year.
The story of "recovering from medical stuff" was just cover.

In the off-season when John was recovering from his crash he got bored so he stuck his nose in running the day to day operations. But that was Robert's job.
Basically John made himself a huge PITA as he has been known to do.
Robert tried to put his foot down and John blew up and Fired Robert.

In an interview at last week's race, John was asked about it and the key line from the interview was John's response of "family is everything".

The more I get to know John Force, the more I like Ron Capps.

Not sure about Bradenton but here in Gainesville right about the time Gatornationals happen that magical combination of air temp and humidity levels have produced multiple record breaking runs over the years

This reminds me of a Hot Rod magazine I read back in the '60s when the question was: What will it take to get hit 200mph in the 1/4 mile? One of the ideas was a second rear axle behind and slightly above the primary drive axle so as the weight transferred the second set of tires contacted the pavement, giving more traction. Not necessary with the advances in tire technology.
Amazing
