Here Comes The Snow!

Lake effect is ramping up today.
Between now and Thurs evening we are in the 8-12 inch range of snowfall.

The snow thrower is ready...changed the oil and aired the tires up. I enjoy using it, it's fun.

^^^ It's still snowing here...about 4" on the ground. But it's supposed to snow all night and tomorrow. That big lake is really cranking it out.

Maybe some of it will go south.

Similar here in the New Mexican mountains. Our 11yo was so crushed yesterday morning - I excitedly said that we got "4 inch snow" overnight. She thought that she heard "4 inches of snow accumulation". I said, basically, "4 inches between snowflakes".

That's also how we refer to rain between May and the monsoons. I think it's a new mexican thing - learned it from some colleagues with fam here since the 16th century.

A week before turkey day we were digging into a foot in our driveway and over three feet at our local ski hill (yay Pajarito Mountain!). It's been crickets since on the snow front, and the 10-day is Severe Clear. Probably going to be a white christmas only in the shade on the north side of the house.

I can't think of anything less fun than standing in freezing cold temps having snow blow back in my face while I'm trying to remove it from my driveway.

This from the guy who goes up North fishing on the Manistee river and it's always the coldest windiest day when I'm out there fishing.

^^^ If it's windy at all....I break out the full ski mask and goggles.
My drive being circular is tough to escape the wind.

I had one years back for my JD tractor.....a walk behind is a lot faster for my drive.

My snow thrower is jealous of your snow thrower.

^^^ Mine got me pretty good a few years back.
I have a concrete apron on the approach to my garage, which meets the asphalt driveway and sometimes in the winter a small ridge gets pushed up.

I was moving along quite fast and turning when the bar hit that ridge and the handlebars bucked up and one came down right into my lower stomach quite hard. It hurt for a few days.

Since then, I don't walk so close to the thing.

Stay warm dude. The best part of being old is not having to go out unless we want to.

Haven't been outside yet, but it looks like only a few more inches of snow from last night.
I have a metal spinner on the deck and it's spinning real good and the temp is 7 degrees!

CB,
I was up there last Tuesday through Thursday. The way up was good. The way home... not so much. Windy and cold the whole time I was there. Thursday was so nasty we had to go up river quite a ways just to find spots to fish where the wind wouldn't push the boat around.
And why don't they mention a cigar and a bottle of bourbon as part of an emergency kit. The cigar will keep you warm and the bourbon, well... it's just good with the cigar.

11 degrees a few hours south of you. We didn't get much snow but I'm prepared my my snow removal equipment if it comes. Mine moves snow and I stay warm.

12 degrees here in NW Ohio this morning.... Windchill is -8. Just got a few snowflakes last night. We are too far from Lake Michigan to get any of that nice lake effect.... It typically makes it about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way across Michigan/Indiana then it dries up.
We hardly got any snow last year and I only "plowed" once or twice and even that wasn't necessary. Never even started my snowmobile last winter and pond never froze hard enough to walk ice skate on. Really hoping for a real winter this year. As a kid growing up here we had at least some snow coverage for most of winter. Not so much in recent years.

When we do get real snow and it is cold/windy.... For plowing with my JD compact tractor I typically wear an old snowmobile suit and a coat over that along with a face mask hat and an old street bike full face motorcycle helmet with a flip down face shield. When fully bundled up, I stay pretty comfy.

You guys feel free to keep that cold and fluffy white stuff up North. I’m hoping for unseasonably warm and dry.

My closest neighbor, a lady my age, died last year and her only child, has moved in and she has been bringing the place back to shape.
Yesterday, a truck and trailer unloaded 2 new 4 wheelers. One a Honda, the other(don't know the brand) with a blade on it.

Her drive is sand....her boyfriend was out there trying to plow it yesterday.
Comical.

In NW Ohio it will never be "warm" during the winter.... With that being the case, I much prefer at least some nice snow to cover up the drab landscape. 40 degrees and rainy still requires wearing a coat just as 20 degrees and snowy does. I'll take the snow!

^^^ Yep, that's about what I wear...except with ski goggles.

And gloves are worthless for snow-blowing. A good pair of mittens and your hands stay toasty!
