I was so proud of myself and was beaming when I brought it back to the lady and showed her how easy it started. She wasn’t thrilled as she said she didn’t have an excuse now for not mowing and leaving the work to her husband! So no good deed sort of in the opposite for that woman.

I lent it to my shop neighbor to haul some stones for a job and he brought it back and said I gotta tell you something and I apologize, it had 2,800 pounds in there. Rear wheel drive single cab long bed. How did nothing happen? Maybe it's because it's an XLT?

I gotta give John some props. I don't know if it'll start yet, but I poured some ATF in the bore and let it soak for 48 hours. Went out today and it turned over. I might have to look into the seal that might have caused the lean problem and snag one. I figure it's worth a few dollars to have a beater/loaner saw around if I can get it running again.
I learned a bit more about the cause. There's a crankshaft seal on both sides of the engine. Those seals ride in plastic case. As the plastic case gets warm it can cause a leak. As the engine gets hotter it can deform the case causing a permanent leak which causes hard starting and the engine not to idle. Again it probably boils down to lack of maintenance on my part in cleaning the saw.
