Interesting video about Firing order

Interesting.

Ok, I had only started watching and thought it was going to be interesting. It ended up being light on info, and was mostly about "Jim Hall liked the way these motors sound."

We did switch our v8 race engines to the LS firing order.

C&p
Why change firing order? Changing a 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 engine to a 4/7 swap sometimes makes a tiny bit of extra power. Swapping both 4/7 and 3/2 reduces crankshaft harmonics and evens out the load on the crankshaft mains, which can lead to smoothness and longevity.

My favorite is 1-5-3-6-2-4

Easily remembered using this pneumonic device.

That's more interesting than the video that I posted. I'm shocked that the video ended up being so light on content. I guess I probably shouldn't be.

I had a 73 240Z in the early 80’s and for some reason, the 153624 is the only firing order I remember, from every car I’ve owned.

My brother's friend's family keep a new CJ-7 at their vacation home that only had 2,000 miles on it. It got stolen, then recovered after the insurance paid the claim. We found out where the CJ was being kept while the insurance company was collecting sealed bids and called the wrecking yard. They told us the CJ was completely stripped, but we wanted to see it, anyway. It wasn't stripped, but it ran horribly. I thought maybe they changed the firing order, and sure enough, they did. Switched a couple of plug wires and it purred like a kitten. My brother's bid beat out the salvage yard by $100, according to the insurance company, and he got it.

A buddy bought an Chevy pickup at auction. He was amazed by the condition given the miles. On a hunch, he went through the menu that changed the display from km to miles and sure enough it was displaying km. He switched it back to km and won the bid.

US 90° V8s w/ 90° cranks are odd fire engines, the issue is the consecutively firing, this is where their distinctive sound comes from cylinder pairs on each side. This needs to be compensated for in the exhaust system




unlike the Ford Voodoo V8, w/ 90° block and 180° crank or a Porsche flat 6 which are even fire engines




The old Porsche flat 8s were also odd firing and came in various flavors to iron out the bugs
