RIP Chuck Miller

Surprised there is not a thread on his passing yet. I did see a note in the Mulholland Drive post.

Apparently Chuck was driving in the R Gruppe Treffen on Sunday and suffered a cardiac issue, that according to the post I read. I did not know Chuck well. He accepted a couple of articles I wrote for the Esses.

Gods Speed Chuck you will be missed

It was Friday, (I was there), very sad news. I am not a member of the rgruppe but I've been to a few of their annual treffens many years ago and Chuck was one of the few guys I actually knew. Everyone knew Chuck who ever went to the track when he was there or on a canyon drive, he was the friendliest dude ever.

Big loss for the rgruppe and the 911 hobby in general but for once, the old adage about dying while doing what you love is true...he was driving his car with friends in their Porsches on a beautiful road in a beautiful part of California, just a perfect day until the music suddenly stopped.

RIP, Chuck.

Was it this accident? There were a lot of classic Porsches on the backroads around here all weekend

Yes. That is Chuck’s car. Sad to see his perfect ride banged up.

Chuck would be crushed to see his hot rod like this.
Paul K said Chuck suffered a health issue on a straight and was unable to drive during his cardiac issue.
Chuck was a great driver so to be clear this was not a bad driver going off then having a heart issue.
Years ago in central California Chuck was leading our 3 car train at a fun pace when suddenly the road ended and became a dirt road.
We all slid to safe stop and had a few laughs about it.
That was the only time I ever saw Chuck go off.
Super guy and I will miss him very much.

We are all just in shock, completely devastated by our loss. Chuck was a brother to me, as he was to everyone else in the club. This was just a bolt out of the blue. I spent the day with him at Streets of Willow for our annual "Sports Purpose Day", like I always do when at our Treffen. I spent Thursday evening with him in the hotel parking lot in Buellton, again like I pretty much always do. We all got up on Friday morning for a couple of scenic drives that some members had planned, and he seemed just fine at breakfast. I never participate in these drives, since I spend so much time on the road getting there and back in the first place. I saw everyone off that morning, telling them all to "have fun", again like I pretty much always do.

Then the phone calls started coming in, phone calls from our members who were with Chuck. Right away it didn't sound good. I was in disbelief. Denial. One of the best drivers in the club had just suffered a very serious accident out on the road. Then, after several hours, "that" phone call came in. Just a punch in the guts like few I have ever felt before. My brother Chuck was gone.

Chuck suffered a heart attack and may very well have been dead before the first impact. Two of our members, both EMT, attended to him before the ambulance got there. They told me they "got his heart back", but he was unresponsive. From what I understand, he never regained consciousness.

I cannot overstate the personal blow the loss of Chuck means to me, nor the blow it means to our club as a whole. One of the most personable, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable members of our club and the community as a whole.

RIP old buddy.

I didn't know Chuck. I am very sorry for the loss of your friend; it sounds like he meant a lot to a lot of people.

He was one of the good dudes and will be missed. We had several conversations a few years back when some pirates tried to highjack his Porsche site (unsuccessfully), he never got rattled

It was pretty much a given that Chuck would be at every Porsche-related event in California. Those are never going to be the same without him. I remember my first spirited drive with him in central California ... nicest, most welcoming guy you'd ever want to meet, but he's 10+ years older than me. How fast could he be? I found out pretty quickly

He wasn't just a Porsche guy. I've run into him at all sorts of other car events over the years. We've chatted over hotrods, and Alfas, and small block Chevys. Just a really good car guy. Always personable. Always friendly. Always knowledgeable, but not in a showy way.

We heard of Chuck's death while on Targa California. It is a huge loss, not only to our hobby, but this world. Chuck was one fantastic man, he welcomed many to the hobby but his life was helping and assisting everyone, anywhere.

I miss him. RIP old friend.
