Well, any remote hope that someone may be able to challenge Jonas or Tadej is (short of crash or illness) already out the window on Stage 1 They're all 59 seconds back due to somehow missing the break near the end. Disappointing.

Straightforward drag race for Phillipsen after a full leadout.

What happened to Quickstep - they should be good in echelons. Evenepol, like Roglic, seems to often be out of position, too far back in the bunch.

Visma team strength on display. Pogacar’s ability to position also on display - but not great that he had to take care of himself, with only one teammate.

Curious why Pogacar and Vingegaard were at the front with 3 km to go and Wellens pulling? What was the point?

I always like the analysis from LR. He's a little hard to understand but he understands tactics way better than me. So Bobke and Phil in the morning to get the overall gist and then LR later to try and understand what happened.

So much for Visma working with Bora and Quickstep to attack Pogacar!

Like Evenepol and Roglic are going to work with Vingegaard now.

I'm cynical, but that "sandbox" hologram is a waste of resources. Technology trying to find an audience; Christian, following on a motorcycle, however, is one of my favorite parts of the Peacock broadcast. Lots of great information.

Mein herr, I too enjoy CVV on the MC. I do marvel at the skill of the MC pilots too.

As an aside I am surprised that spectators are still permitted to burn those flares. That smoke can't be good for the lungs.

I'm always left wondering why Peacock doesn't hire a charismatic personality to fill some of the time on these long stages with 2 minute stories of the various bits of new technology, gear, support equipment, transport, food prep, logistical preparation of the roads...everything that's needed to put on the event!

I like the little snippets of the cathedrals as much as the next guy, but there's so much more happening behind the curtain!

What kind of knucklehead thinks bringing and setting off a smoke bomb at a cycling event is a good idea?

Quickstep did a good job keeping Evenepol in position - or did they, I think Evenepol might have been alone in the lead group or with just one teammate? Visma did a great job with staying together and positioning Vingegaard, again. UAE must be damn happy they brought Wellens for these classics-like stages, and of course Pogacar is one of the top two classics racers himself, he is always where he needs to be. Bora got caught out, again.

Interesting to see Visma so aggressive. Clearly they aren’t looking to work with anyone to gang up on Pogacar, Vingegaard is taking every opportunity to set up a mano a mano contest later in the Tour. Interesting to see Pogacar fighting MVP for the stage, there’s no reason he should want to be in yellow so early, UAE doesn’t have the rouleurs to defend yellow through multiple classics-like stages without Pogacar himself having to do most of the work. Nice to see Van Aert in action, but he didn’t last as long on that climb as the Wout of a couple Tours ago?

I think I complain about that every year. Thanks for doing it for me! Ditto on Christian.

Also, where in the world did Julian Alaphilippe come from at the end of the stage yesterday!? I think there was only one mention of him all day and it was sort of a patronizing comment like, 'nice to see the old guy out there still breathing'. And then all of a sudden he sprints from nowhere to the lead OK, it didn't work out but fun to see.

It seems like they sort of did that one year by sending Steve Porino WAY up the road and were showing all the stuff that was going on along the road in the hours before the race comes thru. I found that super interesting. But yeah, equipment features would be of interest for sure. And on that note: does it seem like an unusual number of mechanical failures already this year?? That rear derailleur that came completely detached was bizarre.
