Oh, Another Drag Race...Wait For It!!!

This is a pretty cool drag race between the heavy hitters. The Porsche wing deployment has got to be the coolest thing I have seen on a car lately.

I met Jason at Big Willow, super nice guy like his videos.
Luckily videos like this have saved me a lot of money as I have zero interest in bloated heavy high tech new cars.

Yea, I have no real interest in those cars. It is astonishing that those cars are so fast. I remember when muscle cars of the 60s and 70 were "really fast" with a 14 second 1/4 mile.

Drove my buddy's Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing today. Holy shiatzu was that thing fast. It handles like a GT3. The initial turn in on the corners was amazing. I had an M5 sedan back in the day but this thing would absolutely crush it on the track. It has an automatic rev matching feature so when you down shift it just blips the engine to make it super smooth. Supercharged V8 with like 680 horsepower, carbon fiber brakes, etc., etc.

I was in a “drag race” with one of Caddie I did not know I was in. I hit a green light just as it was changing. The left turn lanes were just finishing, so I rolled through at 45. The Cadillac just exploded from a dead stop and was even with me as I was just out of the intersection. He blew past me in my El Camino.

Very high 13's for a heavy breather in genuine stock form. 455 SD / 428CJ / 427/454. A unicorn or two: I read a stock (as shipped) LO23 Hemi Dart will beat three of the four cars in this video. 10.5. Production car but not really. Don't know if it was streetable.

My 1978 220hp TA 6.6 Pontiac 400 was 15.128. Guy that beat me had same with cat unbolted -14.9.

Sigh......

Just for fun go to 1:05 in for the LO23:

cammisa's drag races are the only ones I watch.

Philosophically I hate all these cars: Big, heavy, wasteful, too complicated and disposable. In practice I am sure Id probably have a change of heart if I actually drove one.

The Audi looks fantastic. That Porsche wing makes me throw up a little in my mouth though. 3rd owner is really going to hate it!

Low priority but transparent....

I found a more complete video vs the above. It was not the original engine and had 900+ hp. 7:00 in for above scene.

No doubt, a car of the 60s or 70s can be made to beat the cars in the first video. BUT they would be miserable to drive to work each day, or take a highway trip.

The maintenance bill on any of the new cars would be scary.

About 10 years ago when I bought my Cayman, a buddy said for the same money I could get a big block Nova. I had to explain the difference. The Cayman would run a 12.80 1/4 mile, get gas mileage and do the Tail of the Dragon. For the record I used to drag race a Nova so I speak from experience.
