I have not shopped for a smaller truck in over 25 years...things are, uh, different

Ridgeline, Mav and Santa Cruz are on the list...last TMS I'll look at is the Stout. I have watched a lot of videos on the Stout and I hope there is a less "Bro" version available.

I am a year out from buying so things may change but but I know the local Ford and Toyota dealer owners (the T guy is also the Santa Cruz guy) so that helps.

We'll get another ten years out of the Tundra.

I have put 15,000 miles on my 2024 F150 Hybrid. I am very impressed so far. The tech is solid and the transition between hybrid and ICE is very smooth. It does not operate in battery only mode very much, and we use it mostly for longer trips and towing. About 40% of the miles are towing our travel trailer or my car trailer. My mileage when not towing has been impressive for a full sized truck.



I know the question is regarding "small" trucks, but if you end up looking at a Maverick or Ranger with the hybrid, my experience so far is good.

With the 2003 F-250 in the shop again, I went looking for a Tacoma TDR Sport with 4WD and the V6 found what I was looking for that fit the bill, a 2023 at the local Hyundai dealer.
Not cheap,$40 K and had to get a 2nd key fob from Toyota $400
It seems like it is half the size of the F-250

my next door neighbor is begging to buy my old 2006 from me, but I am reluctant for myriad of reasons. he wants to let his 16 year old son drive it. (grrr).

Our family car line-up: 2 4Runners, an FJ Cruiser, a Tundra and LC. Tundra will stay here with Jack.

I just don't need a Tacoma in South Cacalaki...it is now down to the Maverick or a Stout.

Main reason is aftermarket stuff and the seat options (lowering).

I think I'll move this to PARF because I have some questions about hybrids that will stick the landing over there.

Powertrain and Recharging Forum?

I personally think hybrids make way more sense than EVs for most people. At least the Maverick has been out there for a few years, so there should be some good data on how long the hybrid battery lasts and how much it costs to replace. That and if any of the powertrain control computer stuff has reliability issues. It’s relatively mature technology now, should (emphasis on should) be reliable.

I'd worry about maintaining a hybrid when it gets older as my cars are old POS.

That is where I am headed thought-wise...I keep cars/trucks a minimum of ten years.

That’s where I would definitely want to do some research. Batteries have a finite life, it would be good to know how much that eventual replacement would cost.

I'm always looking at Tacomas as a replacement for my daily driver 2000 RX300. They really seem to hold their value, that's for sure.

The 4th gen Tacomas are a step up in size and tech from the previous iterations. (for better or worse). Definitely a medium size truck, not a small truck; but so much more maneuverable than new full size 4x4 pickups.
So far, so good six months in with my Hybrid Off Road (debadged).

I have owned some form of Toyota truck for almost 40 years...I get the appeal and would get a Tacoma in a split second if I needed one.

I just don't need the heft and build of a T at a lot more than a Maverick or, hopefully, a Stout.
