Dewalt 5AH battery

I’ve been looking for another battery for my Dewalt tools and came across this. $45 at Walmart. My local Ace has them for $149. What am I missing?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1751290424.jpg

LWJ 06-30-2025 06:27 AM

Price error? I think you should buy all of them up and put an ad out at $100 and see what happens. Return them if the market doesn't reward you.

cabmandone 06-30-2025 06:59 AM

That has to be a mismark on the price. If it's not, grab me five of them!

On a side note, when did Walmart start carrying DeWalt?

gregpark 06-30-2025 07:01 AM

Same battery? Not a walmart chinese knockoff? I bought some cheap chinese knockoffs on Amazon and they work fine for the most part but won't operate certain tools like my finish nailer. They also won't charge in certain chargers

craigster59 06-30-2025 07:07 AM

They're $149 on Lowe's website and only $68 on Amazon at the "DeWalt Store".

stevej37 06-30-2025 07:38 AM

Does the $149 price include the charger?

Exactly. Steal deal, if that's legit.

look 171 06-30-2025 09:10 AM

Walmark on line? I am next in line

Bugsinrugs 06-30-2025 09:51 AM

Walmart online. I bought it and it’s the real deal . Does not come with a charger.

Odds are they're counterfeit then. I'm still relatively sure my new stacked lithium batteries I bought on Amazon are fake, but I registered them with Dewalt and they didn't kick them back as having a wrong serial number or other oddity. I still question though because they don't have tamper resistant screws in the batteries.

All the 5ah batteries like the one pictured didn't have tamper resistant screws either. FWIW, the only complaint I have with the presumed fake batteries is that two of the five I have only charge to two bars where the rest charge to three.

Was it sold by Walmart or sold by some third party?

IDK man... too good to be true?

Good question. I’ll see how long it lasts. I don’t need them everyday so maybe it will be ok.

Bugsinrugs 06-30-2025 01:26 PM

Yep.. probably a knock off. I looked closer at the order and it says sold and shipped by San Diego store, Live and learn!

look 171 06-30-2025 01:39 PM

I bought 4. Will see how it goes. If not, its no big lost. Someone will find use for it Will report back

The ones I know are fakes have lasted me over four years.

masraum 06-30-2025 02:55 PM

It's interesting, I might be willing to buy a "compatible" battery, but would be far, FAR less likely to buy a counterfeit battery, when in this case the only difference would be the printing/branding on the item. But, I do generally avoid cheap Chinese batteries. I'd hate to have a cheap battery burst into flames in my house, garage, car, whatever. It would not be "cheap" after that. But if you've got a good place to store them so you aren't worried about a huge loss, and/or maybe you go through them like gangbusters, then maybe no big deal.

A930Rocket 06-30-2025 04:11 PM

The one battery ends up costing $58 after shipping.

They do have a two pack for about $89 and free shipping

I was tempted to buy a couple more, but I’ve got 9-10 DeWalt 5 amp batteries now.

I’ve been buying a pair of Dewalt 5 batteries on Amazon with a charger for about $150. I have plenty of chargers now.

You can never have enough batteries!

I want/need some Milwaukee M12 batteries. I need to watch when this goes on sale next. It seems to be the best deal out there for something that's not counterfeit.

Steve, keep an eye out for Home DEpot's sales on the 4th. An ad was sent to me with those batteries on there? I bought some none Milwaukee batteries like ones you need that fit our tools only to discovered their run time is very short. Not worth buying them

masraum 06-30-2025 05:46 PM

4th of July sale, check!

I bought the Milwaukee M12 portable inflator, just by coincidence it was Father's Day, and got that on sale 25% off which was great because it's super pricey compared to the Ryobi 18V version. But I'm very happy with it.

I've got 2 batteries (2Ah that came with tools), they are ancient (12+ years) and work OK, but not great. I'm sure they are due for replacement.

The thing I have found with HD is that they often have branded items made to their own specs. I once bout a washer from them that was branded GE but made to HD's inferior specs.

I know they do that with appliances for sure and tools also. Not sure about tools nowadays. I did some weekend work for Bosch way back in college for their demo days. Many of their tools has a B in their number. It was called the B line tool made especifically for home centers to compete at a certain price point. They look identical as their regular industrial grade tools bought at tool shops but the guts were modify for mfg savings. I took one apart only to find that the gear was plastic instead of alum like in the industrial tools. It was a drill.

I don't think I would worry about batteries coming from Home Depot or any of the large stores. E bay or places, I question their quality.

A930Rocket 08-18-2025 09:06 AM

Update…. I finally got around to using the 5 amp DeWalt batteries from Walmart in my Dewalt blower.

After about 30-45 seconds, it shuts down. Pressing the button, and it runs for a few seconds and shuts down. This cycle continues over and over. The button to check the charge, has three lights. My other batteries worked like a charm in the blower.

Confirmed counterfeit!

Now I need to see if Walmart will let me return them.

cabmandone 08-18-2025 04:58 PM

^^^ That's really wild! All of my counterfeit 5ah batteries work fine in all of my tools including leaf blower and a trimmer. I have three that only show 2 bars even when fully charged.

A930Rocket 08-18-2025 05:36 PM

I noticed when I got them, the yellow coloring, was off. It seemed more like a shiny yellow, than a typical Dewalt battery.

I need to look at them closer, and see if there’s any other differences.

I probably have 10 or 12 of them, so I didn’t get around to using these until today.

I did some digging today, and although the order was fulfilled by Walmart, they were sold by a company based out of China.

Just a hint on batteries. I needed to replace my Hitachi drill with something new last fall and bought a 18V Milwaukee drill driver package that included a drill, driver charger & a 2ah battery and came with a free 5ah battery. Later I bought a multitool for a very low number that came with the tool, charger and another 2ah battery. All from HD. I haven't used these all day yet, but in a couple of weeks, I will be screwing down metal roofing all weekend and we will have enough batteries and chargers to avoid a slow down.

herr_oberst 08-18-2025 06:57 PM

Just watched a story where counterfeit batteries had half the cells filled with sand. Got me to thinking that maybe the Red/Yellow and Blue companies have started to push back and are flooding the market with counterfeits that are absolute junk.

A930Rocket 08-18-2025 08:33 PM

I thought about cutting a battery open to see what it looked like.

I missed the window for returning it. If they don’t refund my money, I’ll cut it open, post a neg review with pictures.

I’m still waiting to hear back from the seller and I may go up to Walmart as well first.

I'd contact DeWalt and get confirmation that the batteries are counterfeit. Once you have that confirmation I'd send that to Walmart Customer Service and the seller.

A930Rocket 08-19-2025 02:16 PM

^^^ Good idea.

Bugsinrugs 08-19-2025 03:34 PM

My counterfeit battery is working fine. It’s in my circular saw and I’m happy with it.

A930Rocket 08-19-2025 05:21 PM

I sent pictures and info to DeWalt.

I’ve not heard back from the seller, so negative feedback is deserved.

Looking at the batteries, I see on the back, it says the cells are made in Korea and the battery assembled in the USA. But it was shipped from China…🙄

Weird. I bought 10 due to the great pricing. There are about 4 more that are still in it adult proof plastic packages in my garage. All the two I have used seem to be working fine. It is in my hand held vacuum for inside my home and yard blower. So food so far. I will open the new ones and look at it anc compare them to your photo tomorrow. Gave 4 to my workman, no complains so far. Get back to you soon

A930Rocket 08-21-2025 03:28 PM

I tried them again today. No luck. In fact, they didn’t run as long as the first time. Maybe 20 seconds before they shut down.

I got a reply back from DeWalt and it was a form reply. It doesn’t look like he even read my email, but he asked if I tried the troubleshooting tips, tried different, chargers, etc. Answered all his questions, sent a copy of my receipt and a video of the batteries running the video and shutting down.

I don’t think it’s a Dewalt issue, I think they’re counterfeit.

Try registering them for warranty on DeWalt's website. If warranty registration works, start a warranty claim. ;)
