Lord, what a petit drama. I read URY's comment and others and OMG I know something about the movie now and I'm going to see it this week with my friends' 15yo son and it is not going to ruin a damn thing. Chill out a bit, y'all. Your experiences are what you make of them.

Steve Carlton 07-07-2025 10:36 AM

This is good to know.

It was pretty true to Martin Donnelly's actual accident. The photos of the driver in the road were actual stills from that crash.

As to the movie, it was fine summer entertainment. Fun to watch. Entertaining. Not deep. Racing footage was good , still prefer LeMans.

But OMG the trailers, I really don't need to be subjected to some dystopian thing about guys on a walk being gunned down in IMAX at excessive volume, then several other shootem up pictures. C'mon. Close to 30 min of trailers and ads, all earsplitting.

Steve Carlton 07-07-2025 07:07 PM

When I saw it in IMAX, the previews were all way too loud. The movie itself was more than a little bit too loud as well.

Now that you pretty much have to buy seats online before a movie to get a decent seat, I've noticed many folks don't get to their seats until the previews are over and the movie's just about to start. I'd be too stressed to do that myself but I have to give them credit for their timing.

Steve Carlton 07-08-2025 05:40 AM

I thought there might be some good trailers for a movie like this, so we showed up in time. We were just assaulted.

Previews are one the of the things I look forward to so always get there at the movie start time. AMC has assigned seating so it's nice to just walk in and sit or get popcorn without worrying about your seat. I see movies and have sat in less desirable seats enough that I have a screenshot of every theater (19) with the best seats. Most times what looks like center in the online seating guide is far to the left or right. Also rows back is important. Theater 7, K5 and 6 are dead center and up perfectly, for me.

Ok ok ok, you guys have convinced me to give it a go. Tickets bought (holy crap $57 for 4 tickets to a matinee!!!) to take the grand babies Thursday.

Will report back after.

I don't go enough to know the seating so I was pleasantly surprised on Sunday when our seats that showed to be to the right by a few seats online were actually dead center.

The most shocking thing about this movie to me is how much Brad pitt looked like Rob Lowe in most of the movie ! Not sure if they share a surgeon or DNA...
Fun movie, even for a diehard fan who spotted all the "wrong" stuff and managed not to care. Thing is F1 cameras are so good nowadays the movie is not as spectacular as I expected.

Yeah, Shaun looks 20 years younger than he is.

Aunt Esther was like that, but looked 30 years younger

I know nothing beyond it has Brad Pitt in it, and could guess the spoilers Paul shared

speeder 07-10-2025 08:13 PM

Brad Pitt looks his age in person but he's a handsome devil. He did sort of look younger in the film, not sure if that was camera/editing software magic or botox or ??

Otter74 07-10-2025 08:20 PM

I saw it tonight with friends. I winced at a lot of the corny Hollywood movie stuff, but the footage was good and it was quite entertaining. The big crash was obviously taken after Niki Lauda’s crash at the Nurburgring. All of my non-car-person friends enjoyed it, and the one very much enjoyed spending two and a half hours looking at Damson Idris.

Deschodt 07-11-2025 08:05 AM

If you mean the flashback to the crash where young brad Pitt gets hurt, I think it's Martin Donnelly's footage / crash they were inspired by, not Lauda's, that was more of a "burn" situation and much earlier... Anyway, no matter. It was not a bad movie overall, but we fanatics were not the target anyway...

I think Otter was referring to the crash in this video from the movie starting at 2:25:

Yep, that's the scene I was referring to.

I coincidentally watched the Senna documentary last weekend and saw the footage of the Martin Donnelly crash in that.

I was entertained, the aerodynamicist was pretty hot, and since I don’t watch F1 anymore it was fun to see the cars and tracks again.

herr_oberst 07-13-2025 02:03 PM

jyl and I saw it last night on a whim.

Visually, it’s really good, but the plot and the liberties taken with the racing rules and regulations are pure Hollywood. Brad Pitt pulls his role off pretty well; much better, than Tom Cruise would have done.
The cinematography and soundtrack make it worthwhile to see on the big screen.
Predictable as a sunrise. But, way better than Ford vs Ferrari, I thought. So much of that movie was overacted to the point of absurdist comedy.

Shaun @ Tru6 07-13-2025 02:08 PM

^^^ heeeeyyyyy, some of us like absurdist comedy! :D
