This one looks bad, based on the video I saw elsewhere I doubt there will be survivors.

I’m sitting in Heathrow right now as I read the news. We flew in on a 787 but flying out on a 777 which gives a little comfort. Obviously the chance of going out in a plane crash is slim, you still can’t help but think about it when you hear the turbines spool up for take off. I always cinch my seat belt and eye ball the exit right then. Always surprised when I see people take off their shoes before takeoff.

My best friend lives there and flies to London on a regular basis and isn’t answering my WhatsApp messages which is very unusual. I’m filled with dread

One vid that I saw showed the plane dropping as though it was landing rather than taking off. Very early WAG...loss of power?

Reminds me somewhat of the Chicago crash of flight 191 back in 1979. No hope.

Good to hear! When the AA flight from Wichita to DCA had the midair a few months ago, I was bombarded with messages. I make that trip often, though typically on Delta to IAD. Scary stuff, you just can’t think about it.

1 survivor...reports a loud bang before the crash... Super hot day which is tough on takeoffs of a loaded jet, looks like a stall with the gear still out (though possibly on some planes retracting it causes extra drag temporarily)...hard to know, more info will surely come out soon - tragic.
But it looks more like a low lift situation due to outside temps combined with some tech issue... hopefully not another Boeing software deal.

And the one survivor walked away without major injury! Amazing, how could there be a survivor in a fire ball like that?

Was the survivor on the plane or on the ground?

Seat 11 so on the plane. It was not his day to go. Like that stewardess ejected from 30000 ft that survived the fall landing on trees and snow. Sometimes it’s not your day I guess.

The report said "a single passenger survived" the crash. Not his time to go I guess

Lots of speculation, of course. Capt had 8000 hrs, no info how many in type. Used every inch of an 11000 ft runway( info confirms they backtaxied to the end) on a hot day (110 degrees) near full load, and got airborne at the very end (kicks up dust from overrun) and mushed out.
Sole survivor reports hearing a bang 30 sec before impact, but plane was barely in the air that long.
