Rennlist 9 least popular porsche designs

Just curious what others opinions on the list are.

1st gen cayenne and panamera.

Personally I’ve always loved the 944’s. The angular shapes, the pop up headlights with a hatch. Just look solid.
914, probably the least looking porsche but what’s wrong with the design? Put another badge on it and I don’t think people would question its design.
924 maybe true considering the 944 soon followed. Still want to get me one.
986, The soft and non aggressive curves and the non overly designed simplicity. I think with 18’s, these are just stunning. Though in certain colors, wheels don’t matter. Convertible design, not coupe turned convertible.
The 996, I’m coming around on. It’s just so unique regarding 911’s. I love the front side, the c pillar I’m still getting used too. I certainly will stop and look at more than anything after. Surprisingly, I think they can hold their own against any 911 convertible with top down up until the latest ones. 996 C4S or aero I think would be excluded from list. Surprising they look smaller with the passage of time.
The cayenne, with a little help is a pretty nice looking ride. Havent given much thought but I don’t see and think “ugh”.
I do agree on the 1st gen Panamera. Nothing can help it visually. Well, I haven’t seen one to change my mind.

I don't think any of those designs are that bad (perhaps the 924 is a little plain). Maybe I'm showing my age but I think all the recent 911s and Caymans are bloated and kind of look like everything else now. They don't do anything for me.

You speak of the 996 but I don't see it on the list. The inclusion of the 986 is a mistake in terms of design. Is it possible that the list should be 996 and not 986?

I agree that the 996 is weak as a 911 continuation, but the fact that it is a 986 from mid point forward leaves only the rear treatment in question. In that respect I totally agree that the C4s corrected any shortcomings. From strictly a design POV, I would really like to own one.

Otherwise, not so much. Moot point at my age.

In the past I owned a 914 and a 944S . Enjoyed both and never thought there was a design flaw . I always thought the 944 was the German version of a 240z .

I currently own a 986S and 996 C4 . The Boxster/S are a modern version of the 550 spyder. Nothing wrong with that . My 996 I love her looks I think she's very sexy in black . I personally think it is still a great bang for the buck but prices are creeping up . Let's face it no matter what Porsche came up with for the first water cooled 911 the purists were going to hate it .

Every one of the cars has it's pros and cons, except the last one, the Porsche 989 Prototype, mostly because it's just a prototype. And we should all be thankful not every car can be a longhood or G-body 911.

No one with a sense of the time and place of the 914, like the 912 (which I have owned) does not feel the same way.

A friend of mine in HS Dad owned a silver 914 with the black top and accents. At the time, I was still rocketing up the streets of Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park, California in my 36 HP Beetle, so when I got a ride in the 914, long drive though Hidden Valley to Route 23 to the beach, the car just seemed right.

I haven't read the article, but the title just says "least popular designs", not "bad designs".

The 914 isn't as attractive as a 356 or 911. I remember at one point thinking they were ugly. They have grown on me. I've never driven or ridden in one, but I think they may be a fun little car.
The 924 was, to me, very boring and looked too much like an early RX7. The 944 is better with the flared fenders, but still kind of boring because they look so much like a Japanese car to me. I'd take a 951 in a heartbeat, and I think the 968 with the round popup lights is a much better looking car. The round popup lights give it a lot more character and add more Porscheness.
I've always thought the 928 was cool.
The headlights on the 9x6 were a huge mistake, and probably cost Porsche sales of both.
The Cayenne when it came out was fairly unloved by many/most folks.
At least the 912 still looks cool. I read something once that said that they had poor sales because the cost of a 912 was too close to the cost of a 911 without the performance.

To be honest? The 550 is sort of odd looking. That doesn't mean I wouldn't cut off a finger to own one. Same for some of the 356 series.

I saw a 904 or 906 years back. Another super desirable car. It looked weird.

For that matter? My 911 SC was beige metallic. Gold, to the uninitiated. It was a very bold color that was a huge turn off for many.

Conclusion: The above list is stupid and was just an excuse to add more content.

I do not “hate” the looks of any of those cars listed but having worked on many of each, I would have to say the 924 is the one I would least want to own and drive. I didn’t care for it when it was brand new.

Feels like a very clickbait list.

While I don’t think the first gen Cayenne or Panamera have aged particularly well, they were both great sellers for Porsche which is kind of the point. I’ve owned a bunch of 986 and 996 models and they are also stellar cars, I think the 996 is finally getting its due now that the air cooled cars have gone way up. None of those are bad cars by any means.

Steve, that is funny to me, as I am the opposite! Didn't care for the 959 when they came out but have grown to appreciate the technology and apparent timelessness.
