Have you read any Dan Brown books
Author of the DaVinci Code and others, Dan Brown has a new book out, The Secret of Secrets. Reading comments on a NYTimes review, many say he's a terrible writer. But then he's worth millions from his books and movie.
Anyone read his books? What do you think?

I read a bit of Da Vinci Code because it was such a hot topic when it came out. I'm not intrigued by conspiracies, so it would have taken a great writing to hold my interest. Bottom line, the writing wasn't good enough to keep me reading.

I’ve read a few. Easy reads for long airline flights. I’ve never gone out of my way to buy one for the home book shelf.
I wouldnt classify him as a terrible writer.

Not a terrible writer. Sort of like a pious Grisham - easy reading and the story rarely stalls out. As a recovering Catholic, it's fun to read his take on the vagaries and the history of the church, but storylines don't break any new ground.

So you're saying the movie is better than the book?

Thanks for the posts. I heard a PBS Newshour interview with Brown and was very interested in the subject. I created the concept of conservation of the soul after senior year physics, conversation of matter and energy. The soul makes us completely unique as a lifeform and and is conserved. The book focuses the nature of consciousness so it should be interesting and enjoyable.

I read “The Da Vinci Code”. He’s not a good writer, not a bad writer, has a good imagination and good world-building. Kind of like Michael Crichton, but maybe better.

I read one or two. I am a VERY particular reader. And I despised his stuff. There were little secrets and mysteries being solved and found on every other page. Maybe if I smoked weed it would be better? There are a couple movies just like this (Not Indiana Jones, which I generally like) that I think are awful as well.

Read three of them back in the day when I travelled more. They are airport books - disengage credulity, read on the plane, then dump at the exit. Preferred Angels and Demons to the Da Vinci code.
I’ve never yet seen a movie I prefer to the book. These are no different. |

I prefer Dale over Dan. They aren't bad, just not my cup of tea.
Current book(s) Spector series by Mover (you tube fighter jock). They are decent enough. Not afraid to kill off a character.
