Looking for Octoberfest Beer
Bell's had their normal 'Octoberfest Beer' out...but Founders usually has one I like more but couldn't find it. (It's called Ultimate Octoberfest)
I found this at Meijer this am.....10.5% ABV and the price was $24 for a 4 pk. $6 for a 12oz beer from the store...I might try one at the bar, but $24 is a little high. https://bellsbeer.com/wp-content/upl...out-Render.png |
I bet at the bar it will be 12 or 15 bucks.
|
Stout http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/pukeface.gif I'd pay $24 NOT to drink it.

Maybe, but that would be very high for around here. A 16 oz mug of Two Hearted is always $10 or under...but I wouldn't be surprised if the beer prices start going up. . |
Have you looked for German options? Spaten, Augustiner, and Paulaner are among the six Munich breweries.

No I haven't....the closest stores that carry those is almost an hour away. I had Spaten last year and it was just ok to me. The Founders Ultimate Octoberfest is what I had hoped to pick up. . |

Sam Adams has my go to Octoberfest. The Ultimate is good but I think it comes out a bit later. FWIW I'd take Sams over Spaten. The Spaten isn't malty enough for me.
|
Founders has this for sale now. It might be only at their brewery.

My plan is to go tonight… to Oktoberfest… in Munich.
I will report back |
I thought Octoberfest was massive amounts of German lager. Not stout. Stout is English/Irish. Not that I know, I'm a red wine drinker.

Correct...the store (Meijer) where I was looking had an end-cap display of all the Octoberfest beer they had. They also had the Expedition from Bell's in the same area. First time I've seen the 'Expedition' . |
In the past I always liked Sam Adams Octoberfest as a mainstream lager available most places and it didn't suck. My favorite Octoberfest beer is a proper Bavarian Pilsner in a bigazz beer stein served by a shapely lass in a dirndl. Those days may be behind me now...

Had a couple of these today during the lawn mowing breaks....it was 84 here today.
Smooth and tasty. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1758396346.jpg |
I had this in Munich yesterday, very refreshing on a hot day.

^^^ Whenever I see pics of German beer or Octoberfest...the mugs look huge.
What size are they....24oz? Looks like a nice place. |
It was a 1/2 litre. They had 1 litre as well. The schnitzel was pretty good too.

I now have beer envy!

I'll have to look for the Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. That's one I haven't tried!

Well I went, er tried to go to Oktoberfest in Munich yesterday.
I arrived at the Theresien Meadow around 3:30. I spent over an hour driving around trying to find a place to park and decided to head back to my hotel. It was 27°C out, it was packed there with men in lederhosen and ladies in those special dresses. To be clear about the beer, there are several available at the grounds. Most Oktoberfest beers have an alcohol content of 12-14%… think Big Bear. The beer in the tents is served in 1 L glasses. This is 3 cans of beer in North America. If you get through one, it is like drinking 7 beers back home alcohol content wise. This is their harvest celebration, and more like a state fair than anything else. Rides for the kids, midway, music, etc. it’s not just about the beer. I will also say that yesterday morning at 3:00 AM I woke up with horrible flu like symptoms (both ends) so wasn’t really into drinking. I sipped apple juice all day. |
