What is your favorite non-standard large kitchen appliance?
Our dishwasher stopped working about a year ago (circuit board issue). We started hand washing instead of fixing it, and after a year we haven't looked back. So, I thought, maybe we should rip it out and put something interesting in the space.
What's some under counter appliance that you maybe once saw on Home and Garden TV that you said "man, I never thought about having one of those in my kitchen!"? Wine cooler? Pizza oven? Something even more exotic?

Oooo! Ooooo! I got the answer!!!
Ok i dont but something to consider…. A 7” 29# mortier. We bought a small 4” 11# one and iit was awesome, so we tracked down this big one. Makes very short work of garlic, basil, spices and has very easy cleanup. A tool we never knew we needed. Some flavor magic happens when you pound stuff in oil and salt.

I meant a "large appliance". Like something to replace the dish washer.
Unless you're going to tell me that there is a dishwasher sized metal frame that the mortar and pestle sits in, in which case, tell me more!

I'd replace the dishwasher with a dishwasher.
I really can't face handwashing dishes. I think it was my childhood or something but I loath doing the dishes. Bosch dishwasher. |

I’d probably go with wine cooler. It would make it easy to swap back to a dishwasher if needed.
I learned from a friend of mine, the trick using a dishwasher, is to put your dishes in after cooking and eating, and wash the load. Don’t fill the dishwasher up, because everybody hates putting dishes away. |

Another dishwasher. I'd give up my oven before giving up a dishwasher.

Modern dishwashers suck! So I understand your situation. I would vote wine cooler, ice maker, trash compactor, or a kegorator.

Ice Maker.
Something like this https://www.fergusonhome.com/product/summary/1559925 But the best thing ever is instant hot water. We have that and a chiller for cold under the sink. |

Ice makers only if you regularly entertain in a large way, otherwise, overkill.
Wine fridge? Nah. I understand a large cabinet (have one) that acts as a cellar for storing large quantities of stuff that's a bargain or that you want to age, but never got the appeal of the "wine fridge". I'd probably go with a beverage fridge, multipurpose. Keeps trips to the garage beer fridge down. Of course, if you spend a lot of time in the garage, that's not smart either.

I'd guess if you put a dishwasher in you'll start using it.
I just moved into a place with no dishwasher. It's not the washing of the dishes that bothers me, it's having dirty glasses and dishes hanging around before you get enough to wash. I also have a small counter so it's hard to find room to prepare food.

Single simple shelf/storage area for big stuff like turkey roasting pans, etc.
If you want to put a usable tool in there instead, maybe a good sized convection oven or a frying unit on a roll out stand?

I'd never get rid of a dishwasher. That said, my favorite under counter appliances in addition to a dishwasher are ice makers, trash compactors and wine fridges.
I put the trash compacter in the kitchen. The rest were in the bar. Two fridges, on for wine, one for beer and other drinks. I like clear ice makers. |

It is not an under the counter appliance but indispensable in my kitchen.
Ninja Digital Air Fry Countertop Oven Great control features and easy storage. Garlic bread, mozzarella sticks, pizza, bacon, quesadilla, toast, Tiramisu, home made soft pretzels, grease-less french fries ![]()

I want a dish washer on both sides of my sink. a fast washer one side, and a regular one on the other.
I handwash now, and I know I use about 100x the water.

Ha! When we had our kitchen remodel designed, there was an open space under one of the counters. I asked what it was for, and the designer said, "wine cooler." WTF?? I didn't want a wine cooler, I wanted another storage cabinet. "OK, no problem. The cabinet will be another $1800." A wine cooler was $395. We got a wine cooler, and actually used it a lot.

I like my dishwasher just fine but if I had an open space, a wine cooler would be useful. Currently we have a 20 bottle wine rack in the pantry and chill whites in the fridge. Less than ideal.
