Congrats! I default to Mazdas when they are available as rental cars, and yes sport mode is always on!

Well, after all these years we know what you look like. If you posted a pic at some point before I missed it.

That's good to hear, no regrets.
I've had the 'regrets' thing happen to me, or rather my wife, and it cost me quite a bit of money to fix the 'regrets'.

Funny story please don't take away my man card :D About a week after owning the car we noticed that the rear hatch wasn't locking . The four doors locked but not the hatch  . Called the salesman to ask are there any tricks to locking the hatch . None he was aware of . Off to the internet I went but didn't find much other than faulty actuator .

Because I have the bumper to bumper warranty I made an appointment for Monday . I talked to the service manager about the issue and he went out and locked the vehicle with the fob . Doors locked but not the hatch . I was first in line so they pulled it into the shop right away . I settled into the " lounge " anticipating a lengthy stay .

Ten minutes later the service manager comes to the lounge and says you are all set . What ? He said come outside I will show you . Turns out the car has what they described as a convenience feature . If the fob is in your pocket as you approach the car the hatch unlocks . So if you have stuff in your arms you don't have to reach the fob . The lock actuator is so quiet you can't hear it unlock .

Because of that feature if you are 10 ' away or less you can't lock the hatch . A sensor detects the fob and won't allow the hatch to lock . The doors lock but not the hatch . Walk 15 - 20 ' away and it locks . Frigging modern cars :D . Neither the salesman or the service manager knew about this feature . The mechanic told the service manager . So a learning experience for all . I felt like such a dope :(

The salesman and manager should have known about it!

So yours does the same thing ?

Is that feature described in the Owner's Manual?

Does that mean you're driving around with the hatch unlocked when the FOB is inside the car and you think you have all the doors locked?

Can you defeat it, ie turn it OFF so it locks every time you lock the car FOB distance be damned?

Neither my wife or I could find it in the owners manual . Could have missed it the manual is over an inch thick ! When in the car with fob in pocket if you push the lock button on the drivers door all doors and hatch lock . We have tested it several times , it locks every time . Now that I know about it I have no desire to bypass it .
