2023 Mazda CX5 any concerns ?
My wife wants to replace her 2010 Volvo xc90 . We bought the Volvo to haul grandchildren around . Well 2 out of 3 are grown up and we no longer need three row seating . A little smaller and more fuel efficient is what she wants .
Found a 2023 CX5 at local Mazda dealer , we are going to go look at it later today . It has the S Select package with AWD . Standard 2.5L engine with just under 20k miles . It is " certified " so 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty . Price is 25k . I have done some quick review searches and it seems like a solid vehicle . Any of you guys have one ?

I'm not sure about that warranty, but they only offer 36 month/36k mile bumper to bumper and 60 month/60k powertrain. 25k is an okay deal, for 5 grand more you can get a new one w/o the auto start/stop and cylinder deactivation.
Wife has a new one and my mother drives an earlier year current gen model. I think they're the most bang for the buck for the jap cars at the moment. Sure, it's collecting your driving data, speech, location, etc. but so does every new car now.

To my knowledge the used " certified " warranty is 10 year/100k which is much longer than factory new warranty . I have asked the salesman to clarify that.
Start/stop can be deactivated by placing into sport mode . Again I will clarify that when we look at it . |

One of my daughters had a 2018 CX5 and I thought it was a pretty great car. Bulletproof for 5 years and quite fun to drive.

Friends have one they bought used a few years ago to replace a Ford Edge that finally died. No complaints from them. I have ridden in it several times and it is comfortable for a smaller suv.

I recall test driving one when we were looking at buying a car for my wife.
I was not impressed with the engine as it seemed very 'tractor like' compared to a Honda. We ended up buying a 2013 CR-V EX if that gives you any idea of the time frame I'm speaking of. Things may have changed for Mazda since then. I know they have for Honda, sadly.

We got a new CX5 about a year ago.
I drove the CX5 turbo and decided to stay with the N/A standard as the turbo didn't really feel that powerful. I like the steering feel and that it does not have a CVT transmission. Nice car with many standard safety features. |

The salesman just told me this vehicle does NOT have start/stop or cylinder deactivation . Online search says those features are hit or miss depending on model years . If the VIN # has an L as the eighth digit then it doesn't have stop/start or cylinder deactivation . I have asked the salesman to send me a Pic of the VIN . This one is the 2.5L normally aspirated . Just fine for my wife .

My wife had 2 cx-5 in a row and now a cx-30. She likes all of them but likes the cx-30 a little more. I’ve driven all of them. My only complaint re how they drive is I hate the steering feel on all of them. She has no idea what I’m talking about when I mention it. Oh, and I do not like the entertainment system interface. Awful awful awful. Wife also doesn’t seem to mind this but that’s only because these Mazdas are her first vehicles with infotainment screens and she doesn’t realize what she is missing. Otherwise, I think body panel fitment and paint quality is garbage just like my Chevy and every other car I’ve owned in the past few years. Had a few recalls but no serious issues whatsoever. She keeps leasing these out of habit more than anything else, and you can’t complain about the nice interiors for the low price.
…just remembered. I hated how firm the 2023 cx-5 leather seats were. I thought they were very uncomfortable with the cx-30 being a little better. Again, wife doesn’t notice or seem to care. Edit….i do love the feel of the steering wheel. For a modern car it is nice and thin which I prefer. I just hate fat bloated modern steering wheels. Mazda seems to buck this awful trend Interesting how Ted above loves the steering feel and I hate it.

2020 cx30, had CX9, MPV, B2200....
Love my Mazdas. The CX9 shook my faith a bit... the CX30 has removed it all. Next one will be a Toyota.

Well we bought it . My wife drove it and just loved it . Only 19k miles it's immaculate . And the CPO warranty is 7 year 100k drive train and 4 years 48k bumper to bumper . Hard to beat that . We pick it up next week as I have to transfer funds to pay cash . Zoom zoom 😆

My wife bought one new in 2021.It’s a non turbo model. It’s been a trouble free 5 years. I just took it to the dealer this week for an oil change and brake service. It still has the original battery, they tested it and it’s down 30%.
The car has only 43,000 km’s (26,700 miles) For some reason the dealers emphasize servicing the calipers once a year. Maybe it’s because of the salt/snow up here.

I’m in Rochester so plenty of salt here. Dealer never mentioned servicing calipers and we have had no issue with calipers in 3 Mazdas since 2016 and no services or any brake work

Good choice! I think Mazda makes a comparably better product that Honda and Toyota, and they are generally less money.

They just take the slider pins out and re grease them. The car is still under warranty. Other than oil changes the only other thing that’s been done since new. A very dependable car.
As a sidebar I just did this on my Tahoe this week. Spent half the time cleaning rust off the hubs and caliper brackets.I had to replace the rear slider pins and rubber boots.

The only pita for me is the 5k service interval. I’ve been spoiled with German once a year.

Not a done deal yet . Over the weekend I found a few inconsistency's in what I was told vs what I found via internet research . I may be making a bigger deal out of that but I need some clarity on a few things . I texted additional questions to the salesman yesterday and I expect answers/clarity today . We shall see
