G-dam..I love you guys.!!
a thread can be specific..like lets pretend about a specific EU SUV... it is always about dam immediate when someone goes..no.."this car" is better. hahahha forums are universal. it is a conduit for everything OPINION. love it |
I test drove the new Land Cruiser with a friend and thought it was nice enough, but a bit spendy for a 4-cyl with 5 seats. I went by myself to see the Lexus GX 550 and thought for the extra cost the V6 and 3rd row made it more worthwhile. I couldn't drive it because they all seem to be sold in advance. My friend wanted a 3rd row and felt more comfortable being less pretentious in a Chevy Traverse Z71. The 4-cyl in it sounds and feels more like a V6 and she's super happy with it. She put an 8 year/125,000 mile warranty on it, which is nice peace of mind. I teased her with a few videos I made from Grok, which is fun.

Yeah, this thread was about the Grenadier...

Alternatives came up- get over it. I had a refundable deposit on a Fisker Ocean. Cancelled it because the timing wasn't good. Super disaster there. Back on topic:

I’m a sucker for Land Cruisers, but no way I’m spending real money for a large SUV that has a 4-cylinder. These things need torque, I don’t want to listen to a wheezy 4-cylinder turbo revving to the moon to overcome small displacement and turbo lag.

I agree with Matt, hence the v8 in mine.

Back on topic.
I worked for Ineos' Plastics Division south of Houston in a place (funny enough) called "Chocolate Bayou" back in 2017. At the time the Grenadier was still being developed and as I was a car guy which everyone knew, they shared all the sketches, specs and some internal docs with me, which was cool. Everyone at Ineos was buzzed with excitement about this new SUV even though everyone was wondering why it looked so much like a Land Rover. Back then, it had not been decided which engine would power the vehicle. I have not driven one but seen lots around town. I know their sales are struggling, so I wonder what the future holds. |
We went cross shopping for the wife last w/e... Tried the grenadier again for thoroughness and peace of mind - nope, too agricultural and really odd steering.. felt like a military vehicle. Tried some 2-3 y old CPO Range rovers models (sport, regular and long wheel base)- all were too squeaky despite being nearly new, the interior not reflecting the price, too little warranty left to take the risk.. Ended up with something I was 100% not expecting at all - a Discovery 5. They made it prettier, more room inside than the others - 7 seater and cheaper than the defender on the same chassis and engine, uber comfortable (driver seat headrest folds like an airplane headrest, I could fall asleep in one), excellent off roading - and since it's not selling too well the price was seriously discounted and it's new with 4y warranty, that lasts longer than the lease. Also lease rate is so good leasing + buying is cheaper than financing. Odd ! She's happy, and I admit I'm impressed too (we had 3x discos we used to go mudding with, disco2, LR3, and never had issues and forded many rivers with them). We'll see...
