OT:F1 at Indy seating question
Off topic but need advise from those who may be in the know.
My question is in regards to the upcoming F1 race at Indy. Has anyone here attended a race at Indianapolis and if so I was looking for advise on seating. What section offers the most as far as view is concerned. I am thinkin I want to be somewhere above the main stretch starting grid area maybe a bit to the south. Any pointers or suggestions! Thanks a million!!! Sure wish Porsche was doin the F1 bit........ ( there...it is a Porsche related topic. LOL)

I'm no expert but I have gone the last three years. Every year I have bought main paddock seats (which are the best for Indy), and all three times I have ended up in the in field sitting on one of the hills. This year I will be buying the cheepest seats and sitting in the infield. It is amazing hearing those cars as they come out of the turn, traction control barking as the tires try to get grip. They slide quite a bit going around the turns too which suprised me. There are also a lot of attractions in the infield. If it were my first year, I would sit in the expensive seats, just so I would feel like I didn't miss anything. But, I don't think there is anything to miss out there. Although the start is pretty neat. By the way, is there a Porsche get together this year? Last year there were quite a few nice 911s parked in the infield as part of that PCNA gathering.

I was considering Paddock penthouse seats above the starting area. Do you get access to other parts of the track with certain tickets or do they limit you to your assigned areas only??

do a search I asked this question last year...the seats at the end of the straight are great...but mixing in some walking around makes it good too...
I am a huge race fan, but the fact of the matter is you never get to see much...you are more there for the ambiance... the infield hills gets you the closest to the cars...the seats gets you higher up so you can see a couple turns... MJ |

You will have access to just about anywhere with those seats, with the exception of the pits and other premium areas. If this is your first time going and you can afford the tickets, I would get those. They will be VERY good seats. Just don't watch the whole race from there. Make sure you visit the infield and watch a few laps from there. My favorite is the first S turn as the cars enter the infield from the main straight. In the past few years, I have watched the start (very cool) and finish from my seats, and the rest of the race from the infield. HAVE FUN!!!!

the seats at the end of the straight are stand H or J. I sat there with my wife the first year. They're great, and you don't need earplugs because all the cars are braking and remarkably quiet.
if you sit high enough, you can see the cars roar around the banked turn, into 1, 2,3 and 4 lots of passing into 1...and the start must not be missed. sjd

I have been each year and I sit with the Central Indiana Region / PCA. We have a block of seats in "J" stand which is at trun 1. There are still tickets available throught the club. Also provided is priortiy parking if you drive your P-car and a police escort to the track. Check out info here: http://cirpca.clevertech.net/events/usgp/club_corral.asp
There will also be a dinner the night before the race sponsered by Porsche of North America.

I have also been going for the past three years. We still have the same seats in J and are very happy with them for the race.
The best seats are those right across from the paddock and high. If you are in the upper deck you can see most of the track. Friday and Saturday are not reserved anywhere (except the suites of course) so we move all around. It is great to watch from the infield where you can get close to some turns and watch the drivers work and really hear that traction control work. For the qualifying hour we go to the main stands across from the paddock, across from the Ferrari, McLaren and Williams pits. Lot's of fans (especially Tifosi) and you get to see the mechanics working, drivers getting ready, and VIP guests wandering around. The new qualifying format will change some of the drama though. Any PelicanHeads wanna meet up at the track on Saturday?
