Sniper in W Va. here we go again....

CHARLESTON, W. Va. — In shootings bearing an eerie resemblance to the sniper-style attacks that plagued the Washington, D.C., region last fall, two people were killed in separate incidents Thursday, just four days after a similar killing of another man.

A man and a woman were shot outside Kanawha County (search) convenience stores late Thursday.

Kanawha County authorities said the shootings appeared to be random but that a single shooter could be responsible for the deaths. Police have not identified the weapon or weapons used.

At about 10:20 p.m. Thursday, a woman was shot while pumping gas at a SuperAmerica store in Campbells Creek (search). County dispatchers said witnesses heard a gunshot but saw no one, reported West Virginia's Charleston Gazette.

The woman's body was covered with a sheet as she lay dead next to her red Pontiac Firebird.

The second shooting happened a little more than an hour later — while police were investigating the woman's death — 10 miles away outside a Go-Mart in Cedar Grove (search) on U.S. 60.

That person died and the body was lying covered with a sheet early Thursday, while a maroon pickup truck was parked nearby in the lot, the Gazette reported.

George Carrier Jr. 34, of South Charleston, was shot in the head and killed Sunday night while using a pay telephone outside a Charleston Go-Mart.

Lt. J.S. Bailes, Kanawha County sheriff's spokesman, had few details about the killings.

But all the victims were killed late at night while at gas stations and all of them reportedly died from single gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities have not confirmed that.

There are apparently striking differences in witness descriptions of the possible suspect's vehicle.

Late Thursday, police across the area were alerted to increase patrols around stores with gas pumps. Police are looking for a black pickup truck with gold trim seen leaving the Cedar Grove store and a dark-green or blue Chevrolet Corsica from the Campbells Creek shooting.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies were questioning store employees and customers late Thursday but would not release any further information.

Campbells Creek resident Rick Clay told the Gazette that his 16-year-old son, Cody Ryan Clay, had tried to resuscitate the Speedway victim. Cody and his grandmother said they heard one shot and ran to the store from their adjacent residence.

Rand resident Arietta King said she saw a blue Chevrolet Corsica go speeding past her on Campbells Creek Drive, about a half-mile from the store, the Gazette reported. She then came upon the woman’s body, lying on the ground next to her car.

The Charleston Daily Mail reported Friday that the father of the slain woman has identified her as Jeannie Patton of Campbells Creek.

Larry Patton said he learned of his daughter's death from friends who apparently saw her body on a television news report.

WCHS-TV reported that Thursday's male victim has been identified as Okey Meadows Junior.

Kanawha County Chief Deputy Phil Morris voiced concern Friday about the resemblance between the deaths and last year's sniper shootings in the nation's capital region.

Residents were advised Friday not to travel alone to convenience stores and to keep their eyes open, Morris said.

The shootings came less than a year after two snipers randomly shot men and women of all backgrounds and races in Washington and its suburbs. Many of the victims were performing everyday tasks like pumping gas and walking through parking lots at Home Depot and Michael's craft store.

The D.C. sniper shootings left 10 people dead and three others wounded over a three-week span.

Lee Boyd Malvo (search), 18, and his alleged accomplice, 42-year-old John Allen Muhammad (search), are being charged in the case.

Damn! Copycats. Anybody remember the crazy Kinkle (Kinkel?) kid here in Oregon? Murdered his parents, then shot up half his high school? Corrections officials say he still gets "fan" letters from other teens, the majority of them girls. Sick world? Youbetcherass!

that's what happens when the government decides parents are no longer allowed to raise their children and the schools don't do anything either

Thats strange, I'm a parent and I didn't get the letter from uncle sam telling me not to raise my kids.

IMHO it appears most parents just shuck that responsibilities since most of them are immature kids themselves and let the TV raise their children for them instead.

We all know what kind of wholesome ideas and imagery the media provides our children, don't we?

And? we still let the kids watch? Not necessarily so. There was a TV movie some time ago about teen suicide. Being concerned parents, Cindy & I made sure the TV was off that night. So, what is her "language arts" assignment in high screwall the next week? You got it..to read this same piece of KRAP! NOT Willie Shakespeare, NOT Ibsen...nope, a TV "drama" script. One full of nothing but the then current "Politically Correct" thinking. As defined by the National EXTORTION Assn. A letter? It'll never come. In the government schools, they indocrinate as they wish. Parents, and their wishes for their children, doesn't matter . They, you see, are the "professional educators". Any input from a parent is simply a nuisance.

I'm mostly worried about my daughter being overly exposed to violent and sexual material. Will she be exposed to violent and sexual imagery? Yes. IMHO its all about controlling the context and frequency of this material.

Kids have to deal with suicidal thoughts and emotional lows so I don't see why you would be so opposed to your kids having to watch a movie that may allow them to deal with these emotions instead of just letting these thoughts and emotions fester.

As unfortunate as it is some kids are better at getting a message from a TV show than a several hundred year old play written in old english.

Perhaps you are just not describing your objections to this assignment and movie very well pwd72s but if this is how you deal with sensitive subjects in your household I'm more worried about how you are raising your kids than the assignment materials of the NEA.

If you know how to properly communicate with your children and teach them your beliefs I don't think you need to be so paranoid that a school assignment is somehow going to pervert them.

The real world is awaiting your children no matter how much you may try to insulate them from it.

Dear 350 HP, My daughter, age 33, is in the real world right now. And, she's never been in jail, makes a good living as an RN, doesn't do dope , is working on her second hubby. I guess, by today's standards, Cindy & I did our jobs as parents. My objection to the government screw-alls didn't come from a feeling of censorship. Quite the contrary. We did our best to teach her of the world as it exists. My problem with the government school system is that it teaches only one values system, and that is secular humanism. If that isn't censorship, I don't know what is. Censorship by omission is still censorship, right? Silly me, but I always thought it should be the right of the parents to teach values...be they muslim, humanism, christian, agnostic, athieism, paganism, or whatever. It's NOT the job of a public school teacher or "so-called" counselor to preach basic values. But they do...boy, do they! These values? Well, Kipland Kinkel's parents, murdered by their son, were "professional educators", working in the Government school system. Go figure.
(edit) To keep this on subject...if a sniper type picks on my daughter? He'd better not miss. One of the "politically incorrect" skills I taught her was shooting, and other methods of self defense. She's pretty good, and has a carry permit in the state she now lives in. My hope is that one of these "sniper" cretins gets taken out by somebody with a license to carry.

Hmm, doesn't do dope? The way you like to bring this subject up all the time I really have to wonder if you, your wife or daughter don't use any type of drug concidering this attitude you have about it. Whether you drink or use any of the other state sanctioned drugs out there I could care less. Its how you manage your life that is important in this world.

Secular humanism? What is that exactly since I usually only see that term pouring from the mouths of religious nuts that can't stand that schools should dare to touch on the subject of human behaviour without bringing god or jesus into the classroom.

Concidering that I am the same age as your daughter, spent the first 8 years of my education in a parochial school and then switched to a public high school when I was 15 I can clearly see the paranoid delusion in your belief that our schools and educators are twisting the minds of our children.

Your frequent derision of things that you claim to have no experience with or exposure to speaks for itself.

No one peed in my cereal but when I see pwd72s trying to blame all the worlds problems on overworked and underpaid teachers trying to do the best they can I feel compelled to throw in my two cents.
