Here is a picture of the mighty patrol boy squad from John Gorrie Elementary School, Tampa FL of 1969-1970. I'm in the back row second from the left. I was 10 years old. I wish I has some of that hair now...

As a long-time bike commuter, I hate seeing stuff like this. Too bad that there is a grain of truth here.

Perhaps, unfortunately. And it affects badly the attitude of drivers to all riders. But: after you have been hit by a car once (...or twice...or more...) it tends to make your riding behavior a whole lot more defensive and cautious. Less likely to flaunt traffic laws. More aware that you aren't entitled, and you aren't at the top of the food chain.

I think you misread what I wrote. I said that there is a grain of truth to it, and that it is too bad that there is. That when we bike riders act like that, it negatively affects how all drivers perceive us. I also suggested in a follow up post that such behavior on the part of the rider can lead to getting hit. It is hard enough sharing the road with autos as is; you don't need to add risk by riding stupid. Better?
