My wife works at a major university in the area and they have a electric typewriter they keep in case a form or something needs to be typed. It seats on a table with a cover over it. One day she pulled it out and stated using it. She said within a few minutes she had a crowd of work study students standing behind her watching it work. They had never seen a typewriter being used before. They were completely mesmerized by it.

I leaned on a manual typewriter. Electrics were out there but the IBM Selectric was the modern marvel of science and technology. Still have the manual kicking around in the attic somewhere. I was totally sold on computers when I found out a Commodore 64 had 1) a spell checker! and 2) if I found an error I could edit after printing without having to retype the whole stupid page! I thought I died and went to Heaven. I dreaded doing papers in college because of the typing.

Computers were already in existence in the 80's, but in my high school they were still teaching typing on IBM Selectrics. That's what I learned on. A couple years later when I started college, one of my first semester classes was "Keyboarding 101". I guess that I am thankful that I am not a two-finger typist since so much of my job is computer generated paperwork. And like you, I really like that I can correct my mistakes without keeping a bottle of white-out handy.

The Seaside Heights coaster was the "Mighty Mouse" and was not one of a kind. It was built in many places and popular because it was so compact that it would fit where a traditional coaster would not.
