Asimov was no communist. He did serve in the US Army during WW2. Not at the front for sure, he was back home at a research lab.
He for sure was very liberal in his politics. He was born in Russia, but came to the USA and worked in his dad's candy store from an early age. He understood the family business from the inside. He was well aware of the capitalism. He was raised Jewish, but Science drew him away from religion.
