The guy was great. I was a relative newcomer to him with "Sentimental Hygene." Every song was well-written, and particularly well-sung. Thematically, that album may be timeless.
Smoking added to his voice (read deepened). Could you imagine "Werewolves of London" sung by Michael Jackson or Justin Timberlake? I can't.

Yes, Smoking definitely killed him, as it's killing my dad at this very moment. At least Warren Zevon kept his humor to the end; on the subject of his impending death he remarked, "this is a little extreme. All I wanted was the Steve McQueen haircut".

His ol pal Letterman did a nice tribute of sorts to him on his Monday night show. You could tell he was pretty bummed.

I didn't know that Zevon wrote a few of Linda Ronstadt's hit songs. Some of these guys go way back. Lived a big life in a shortend span. Ditto: RIP

I l-o-v-e-d his stuff when I was in law school. I realized, reading this thread, that my 20th year reunion for law school is this year. Boy that makes me feel old. Time to have a blast in the 911! Oh, wait, I still have no brakes. Crap.

"Home sweet Alabam, Play that dead bands song, Turn up those speakers full blast and play it all night long." W. Z.
Zevon speaking about himself said, "That it was hard for him to write songs, thats why he wasn't a prolific songwriter." Warren Zevon, Tom Waits an Keith Richards...all social outlaws "Don't you know there ain't no Devil, theres just God when he's drunk....Well this stuff will probably kill you...let's do another line." T. W. "Please allow me to introduce myself" K.R. Yes WZ will be missed............
