Got superglue in my eye...eeek
Huh, this was close call. I punched a small hole on one of those superglue tubes (you know, you need to punch a hole then screw the pipe on). Unfortunately, it was somehow pressurized and small amount of cyanacrylate squirted out, straight into my left eye. I immediately rinsed it in lot's of warm water and it felt allright aside from small irritation that i believed was caused by rinsing itself. Unfortunately, it still felt funny after 30 minutes (it felt like i had something under my eye-lid, rubbing) so i went straight to opthomologist. Nurses properly rinsed eye all around and doctor checked it with eye-scope with contrast-color and all sheebang.
Luckily, eyeshower got rid of whatever was trapped underneath the lid and there was no damage on cornea apart from small irritation :-) Use eye-protection whenever you can! Cheers!

Ouch! glad you're ok.
BTDT, I was young and didn't bother going to the Dr. Lukily no problems. Superglue itself is pretty safe, the bad part is when it's dry it can scratch things up, like your eye, duh.

Both my wife and I have had that adventure. Me, it landed on the edge of my contact lens which was briefly glued to my eye.
![]() ![]() Her situation was a bit worse; I had to take her in to the doctor who gave her some ointment for her eye to keep it lubricated. You already know the moral...Wear eye protection!!! Glad your incident turned out OK.

Weird! I could never imagine that there were more people who got that substance in the eye...
As far as i understood, it's hard for it to stay on the eye but it hardens and can scratch things then...

I forgot a detail of my adventure w/ super glue. My first reaction was to close my eye, bad move. That stuff dries fast! I had to open my eye back up w/ my hands and that was probably the worse part. I think my eyelashes looked a little funny for a while.
I still forget to use glasses when working w/ the stuff and I’m really good about wearing them w/ everything else. Hopeful this little reminder will make me wear them next time I grab the stuff.

Blue,
Seen most of those! Plus, when building the models you work with lots of the stuff and the fumes can get to be quite harmful as well!

funny, I use superglue to seal up really nasty cuts when i dont feel like going to gety stitches. But then again I know how to suture, and have all the needed equipment, so i really dont need to go to the doctor anyway.

I heard somewhere that superglue was originally developed as a battlefield suture replacement...which is why it bonds skin quicker than anything else. Anyone else heard this??

yah, the medical stuff is called Derma-bond, and you can buy it off the web. Might be a good idea for your first aid kit...

(Quinn & Kissick, 1994) Current use: Although not labeled as such, over-the-counter Super Glue products contain methyl alcohol, because it is inexpensive to produce. Cyanoacrylates cure by a chemical reaction called polymerization, which produces heat. Methyl alcohol has a pronounced heating action when it contacts tissue and may even produce burns if the glue contacts a large enough area of tissue. Rapid curing may also lead to tissue necrosis. Midwives have not noted such reactions because minimal amounts are being used for perineal repair. Nevertheless, with a greater toxic potential, over-the-counter products are inappropriate for use in wound closure. (Quinn & Kissick, 1994)

OK, i'm a jinx! (Just listened to old grunge heroes TAD btw.) Today, riding my bike I got supersize bug smack right into my right eye ... it even smelled rotten (like those bugs do when you squash them)....it hurt a lot. Eye got sore and swelled...if i believed in gods existence i would probably be convinced that he was against me or something....

Two words: eye protection!
![]() Some days you're better off wearing glasses instead of getting LASIK. ![]()
