About a year ago, the Washington DC area was not the place to live. Two years ago in September, it was Manhattan. It was just AZ's time in the barrel. Who knows what next year will bring?

9/11 and the sniper were not endemic problems. Alien smugglers are, at least until Bush gets off his ass and starts enforcing border security.

Higher and wider fences? We have a problem here in AZ due to laxness on both sides of the border at the federal level(s). In New Mexico, where I travel quite a bit, along the border, they have a very active patrol, and inspect even motels. I agree that, until Washington sees this as a serious problem, little will be done to curtail the illegal activity. Then, what else is new?

I knew there was a reason I didn't move to Arizona....
It's really not any better here either...they are always finding people in dumpsters...thats why I stopped doing my grocery shopping in them... Glock 23's are nice...that 40 S&W sure gets up and goes... Detonic's sure made a nice backup sized 45 ASAP Winchester made a knuckle buster in the model 97 Riot gun and Springfield Arsenal not Armorey made a he11 of an impression on George Patton with their M1 Garand Rifle... Of course what do I know, I've only held a gun in my hand once and nearly peed my pants when I did....all that awesome power in my hand nearly scared me to death....

Richard,
My Colt Combat Elite is .45 ACP. However, it was also made in .38 Super. It is accurized but not to the degree of the Gold Cup National Match, which is pretty much competition ready out of the box. IMO, the GCNM's accuracy comes at a price, it suffers from being very finicky with ammo. The Elite is more for the combat-style match shooters. Very much my favorite pistol and extremely accurate...even more so than my Ruger Target! It's also considered one of the best combat sidearms ever produced.

Isn't the Colt Gold Cup, National Match the top of the line Colt Auto? Didn't they start making the National Match in the 1930's first in 45 ASAP then in 38 Stuper, and as a companion gun in 22 LR the ACE? Hmmm, I recollect hearing now, that during the late 1950's..didn't Colt make the National Match in 38 Midrange as well as 45 ASAP and again in the late 1980's make a short run of 38 Stuper Matches in SS. Or I even understand they made the Gold Cup in 10MM in the early nineties, a few were even made in SS...I bet some of those guns are really hard to get, and the price must be sky high when you do see them for sale? But thats only a guess on my part....as I've only held a gun once...and that was enough for me...

You know that guns made before 1945 are a lot less scary to me than the newer ones...they don't look like they were made of stamped steel and plastic parts...Theres wood, machining, milling, polishing, fit and finish..hey kinda like a Porsche except the Porsche is alot less scary of course. I mean have you ever seen a Sharps ahh 1878 Long Range up close? I mean that gun was meant to shoot 1000 yard Target matches. Now I would be afraid to touch one of those cause you never know if it's loaded or not and a 1000 yards well thats a long way for a bullet to travel with accuracy, especially one that was made back in the day. Weren't they still using Black Powder back then....wow what they could accomplish with a 45/100 cartridge... Bet thats gota be a pretty rare gun after all this time. By the way are Sharps Shooters called that because they shoot Sharps rifles?
Geezus...Bell...just the sight of those guns in your pictures makes me dribble myself....isn't that a WW2 German MG34, and Browning model 1919...not that I would know what I'm talking about or know the difference...and in the 2nd picture... wasn't a guy named Stoner the orginal designer of those EVIL, vicious looking weapons...

Oooh, now rifles.... my favorite! Anyone care to guess what it is?
BTW, I shouldn't be talking about this. After all I'm from NJ (Nazi Jersey) where these are banned for civilians. ![]() Tubs, my Elite is Stainless, Pachmeyer grips and parkerized slide. I thought the 10mm versions were the Deltas....not sure.

380 would be my back-up choice as well. Still haven't settled on brand or model.
Noah, Here's a great site on the background of the Galil (S)AR .223s http://world.guns.ru/assault/as23-e.htm This as well as the many AR 223 rifles are decendents of the Russian Kalashnikov AK-47. Examples made in China, Spain, Germany, Belgium, US, Israel etc..... Discovery Channel did an excellent bit on the Galil rifle. They dunked in water/dirt, broke a door down with it and it fired perfectly every time.... Arguable the best combat rifle made. I also have a particular liking for the awesome HK 91 (aka G3).
