TABASCO SAUCE Addict

It all started quite innocently with Frank's Red Hot, a few drops on the eggs, a shot or two on the pizza, this went on for years all through childhood.
Then at about 13 yrs. I discovered Tabasco, a REAL hot sauce, it seemed really hot but I liked it. Frank's was slowly phased out.

Now it is no longer a condiment, it is in fact a mandatory part of most meals. I am so addicted I put it on green beans! I love the stuff. I keep a bottle in the car, on the boat, at my Mothers. Tabasco has tons of sodium, but that's okay because I drink enough Coke(another addiction) to dissolve it!! Am I alone?, or are there other Tabasco / hot sauce addicts.

Tabasco Trivia: It used to be called Tabasco Western Sauce.

A Tabascoholic?
Not I, though I like the occasional high-Scoville encounter. Usually I'm wearing a five-point harness on the can the next day.

I think the McIlhenny family was originally from New Orleans (New Iberia?) and became Civil War refugees in Mexico where they discovered the beauty of the peppers grown in Tabasco province.

The post Civil War of Tabasco sauce made the family richer than they had been before the war.

The beauty of Tabasco is that the peppers are lightly smoked before being barrel cured. Yumm! I have yet to taste a pepper sauce as wonderful as Tabasco. Most pepper sauces only give you heat. Tabasco has a beautiful flavor.

Edit: Checked my facts, the peppers are not smoked. The smoky flavor comes from a three year fermentation in oak barrels! Salud!

Next time you grill burgers outside add a bunch of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce to the meat before you form the burgers. Heaven.

Oh yeah! We go through quite a bit of the good stuff at our house. My wife loves it on more food than me.
Here's a poster that we had dry mounted and is in our kitchen over the fridge.
Plain cheese pizza with Tabasco is great.

Here in the SouthWest, Pepper based sauces/condiments are a way of life. But, after a certain age, sanity kicks in when the "four point harness" is required. Some are better than others, and hotter is not always better. There are some hot sauces out there like "Insanity" that are aptly named, and best avoided by people still in charge of their faculties. Tabasco is great and has relatively minor "end results".

It was mandatory in the army to carry Tabasco to liven up the C-Rats and MRE's. They even put little bottles of it in the MRE's.

My old man was and still is a Tabasco-holic. Old guy hasn't gained a pound since 1955, either. His diet is Tabasco on EVERYTHING.

As genetics play distinct roles in human development/denegration, like alcoholism, Tabasco Sauce addiction should fall in the same category. I won't touch an egg, steak, piece of chicken or Bloody Mary unless it has Tabasco on/in it.

Moses, the bike rider killer ( ) is correct that the sauce is produced in New Iberia, La. It's tucked away behind a flamingo reserve, as I recall.

A long time ago, I once took a tour of the factory. My goodness, a person needs thirst quenchers as soon as they walk in the building. The eyes start watering, the mouth goes dry, and no one who works there seems to mind. They have a forklift loading barrels of the stuff on flatbed rigs - trucking it out to those who no longer find flavor in their food.

By the way, is it lunch time yet?

I'm a weenie...don't use a lot of it, but a bit of regular red & a bit of green...together on eggs? Yum! Their new cabenero (sp?) sauce is too much for my taste buds...

I always have to laugh when I hear that.
And I was wondering if anyone would say it. I should have guessed it would be you, Thom.

Back in the day if it had a double dose of X chromosomes, that was pretty much the truth.
