Spirit Jet takes a couple bullets over Haiti
One flight attendant suffered minor injuries and the flight was diverted to the Domican Republic to land. Bullets went thru both sides of the fuselage.

I've never been to Haiti...but I've twice flown Spirit into Puerto Rico from Detroit.
I know Haiti is bigger and more poverty stricken, but PR is not much better in spots.

This could happen just about anywhere if some nut job decides he wants to take pot shots with a hunting rifle at an inbound or departing plane.
That said.... Haiti is as good as a garbage pit as they come for it to happen.

The shooter lives on....over a hundred family members and relatives of Haitians die if it takes the jet down.

My dad was in his 50s when I was born. He flew C-47s in New Guinea and china. The Japanese would leave stay behind suicide troops whenever we’d take an airfield. They’d hide in trees and snipe at planes. My dad dealt with this by coming in way high and diving on final.
Thirty years later in Iowa he was still doing this. Drove my mom insane.

The good news is that Haiti has strict gun control laws.
Whew! Haiti. Possession of firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weaponry is strictly prohibited to any person, unless the individual has a Haitian license or has been specifically authorized by Haitian authorities. |

Over 20 years ago, I toured Spar aerospace who was (at the time) WestJet’s repair and maintenance contractor in Calgary. At the time, WestJet used to buy used 737s and refurbish them before adding them to their fleet.
The plane they were working on while we were there was a used 737 from South America, I recall Columbia. It had bullet holes in the elevators . Apparently this was pretty common on South American planes at the time. Higgins may be able to comment more on this but all repairs had to be done in accordance with Boeing’s recommendations. My point is that this isn’t a new thing.
