Running a PC on a Mac wireless network (Airport).
I mentioned before that I was forced to get a Windows box. Got a new one at a fair price on Ebay.
I put in a 802.11 wireless card then took the machine home. I mentally budgeted myself about 2 hours to get this mismatched setup to work. Guess what? Two minutes! I plugged it in and the Windows XP said "We have detected a wireless network. Would you like to connect to Airport?" I clicked "yes" because "hell yes!" was not an option. Well it works seamlessly. This episode has softened my distrust of all things Microsoft considerably. Windows XP is a huge leap. It's not Mac OSX, but it's pretty darned good so far.

give some credit to the Airport base station, but yes, XP is better than previous widows versions. It still has some issues, especially with wireless/network. I have a tablet that is often very slow to find the wireless signal upon waking, and sometimes I have to find it for the machine. I've been spoiled by my Tibook...you open the lid, and in about 2 seconds you're back on the network ready to go.

Welcome to x86 land. Now go put Linux on your machine, and you'll be back to where the Mac with OS 10.x is - only difference being more openness and quicker/cheaper bug fixes.

Speed or connection issues are more hardware related than OS.
I have a fleet of wireless laptops I have to maintain for an environmental engineering company and they can find and connect to wireless networks faster than I can even start to click an icon. |

We didn't use wireless at work only because of the ongoing security issues.
We were able to see into the network of the studio next door, while at the same time, they were able to see into our network. ![]()
