CSOBOSC is a small e-mail board type group, it stands for cheap SOBs of Southern California.
Most members are 914 owners and we compete to see who can do the most with spending the least. Any time one of us is getting ready to pay full retail for something for our Porsches, we post it. Invariably one of the members posts back a way or place to make the purchase for much less that retail. We swap and trade parts and are always on the look out for deals. For instance, if we find somethinmg on e-bay that is mis-represented and is worth much more than it is going to sell for, we share that information. Someone in the group buys it and re-sells it. Who ever can turn the biggest profit with the smallest investment wins ![]() We also take turns bragging about how much money we saved. Some mebers are very creative when it comes to cash. It's hosted at http://www.malmz.com/ click on chats and lists at the top for an overview of the group. |

Stuck in a 914?
I feel for ya, buddy. I haven't played the evo mode yet, but if that happens to me, I'll go get some other game.....where I can drive a *real* car. ![]()

That's the one thing that annoyed me the most. Every car in "Evolution" was faster than mine off the line, no matter how many go-fast parts I bought. WTF?

Try not to use the brakes... ever... and when you do, just tap them, don't slam them on. Also, use the close-ratio gearboxes, as it's rare that you'll ever need to wind it out to top speed. (Unless you're driving your worked 993TT on Autobahn, then you'll need the high-speed gearbox to keep ahead of the pack at 200+mph.)
Another tip: Don't bother with the rain or snow tires. Even on Alps!

If you guys were talking about the 360s between the cones, my technique (with a cheap wheel and pedal set) is to : give the wheel a fast flick in one direction, hit the park brake to lock the rears to initiate rotation, as the car achieves reverse travel (driving backwards through the cones) release the brake and reverse the position of your wheel (that is: if you first turned the wheel to the right to start your slide, turn it to the left to continue the rotation). I taught it to my 13 year old daughter. Her reflexes are better than mine, but I hope it teaches her something about car control.
Yeah, I remember the 914 racing to be tight. There are three cars (1.7, 2.0 and 1.8 liter) available in the Used Car section. You won't be able to outdrag everyone but as was said above, the key is in the chassis mods and gearbox. It does encourage you to be smooth. I found I had my best advantage in slow hairpins (Monte Carlo, Alps & Corsica) Hey, its cheaper than finding out at what speed the old E flies off the road! :-) Les

So, nobody answered my question. How come, at the starting line, every other car (with supposedly less-than-or-equal-to HP) would get the jump on me? I always had to beat 'em in braking and turning.

(I haven't tried the faster cars yet. Still enjoying the delightful antics of the 356's).

OK, I had only had 1.7 & 1.8 L versions of 914, but "bought" and fixed up a 2.0 L car (med.performance carbs, the good intake system & exhaust and air filter, high speed gears, semi racing shocks & brakes& slicks. A launch around 4000 RPM keeps you ahead of the other guys. Representative times through Corsica: 1.7-3:25, 1.8-3:23 & 2.0-3:10
Happy motoring! Les

![]() ![]() I urge all of you,if you love racing games, and porsches in particular, buy this game, finish Evolution Mode(keep all your cars!) finish Factory Driver, and then d/l this free proggie, called IPLounge, created by 2 members of our community that will allow you to race online via IP racing, with a chat window that you can use to chat with other racers, and view and select pits in progress. http://www.rivalstock.com Here is a link to another forum http://www.racerplanet.com There are links to several PU racing clans where you can find set up tips for all your NFS PU cars,as well as a great forum, like this one, where most of the NFS PU community post. I know that an arcade racing game is no sustitute for the real thing, but where else can you race a GT1 at 200 mph + speeds,or if you prefer something a little older and slower, any one of about 20 different 356 models? There are up to 84 cars you can own,and race online, and since PU is over 3 years old,the game will run on most newer PC's.
