Examples:

Good: "Can I make this seat work somehow in my car given the mounting I have?"

Stupid: "Will this (insert model) seat make my back hurt worse than the factory seat?"

Granted he:
1) lives in CA near about 8 distributors
2) has never gone to any of them and sat in any other seats to try
3) gives no info on his height or weight
4) no info given on prior back injury
5) no info on his current driving preferences

THAT is a stupid tech question.

Superman 02-16-2004 08:46 AM

So, if I install SSIs, aluminum pressure plate and cool collar, and assuming it's NOT a full moon, then how long will it take an army of fire ants to eat a half-gallon of ice cream? My car had A/C that I have removed, if that helps.

jluetjen 02-16-2004 08:51 AM

Go ahead and cut the brown wire.

... after removing the green fuse.

Oh -- BTW, there are no stupid questions. Only stupid attitutes and occasionally stupid answers. This may even be one of them. But if you don't like a thread -- skip it. No one if forcing you to read this BBS.

tsuter 02-16-2004 08:59 AM

Some of you folks know I also have an extensively modified New Beetle (245TQ/230HP).

The Vortex forum makes this one look like.... well read and see:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1216605

It makes PP forums look pretty good actually! :)

singpilot 02-16-2004 09:00 AM

There is a man with a short brown wire in his hand forcing me to read this thread.

There are no stupid questions.

I am constantly on the lookout for stupid questions; I sometimes say stupid things in reply, (thinking I am funny) that are taken as patronizing by some. They were not intended to be so.

I can assure you all that I still have some questions in me that someone here will think are stupid. I will assume that the replies were meant to be funny rather than patronizing.

With a stupid attitude like that, no one will ever hurt my feelings, and I would (stupidly) hope that no one will be hurt by my attempts at humor.

Everyone clear?

Good.

Leave the brown wire alone. Tape it back up where it was before you attempted to clean the wheel wells.

P.S. For those of you who know how much trouble I got into with the "Spellcheck" thread, you'll note that I did not mention the spelling error in the title of this thread..... (This is a stoopid attempt at humor on my part... no offense intended, tsuter).

Mark sP 02-16-2004 09:03 AM

Ok then chaps. What about the green wire?

(Joke)

:)

Which one of these distributors fits a 3.2 conversion for a Porsche?

Why sooo many stoopid questions on "technical" forum?

Please Mr. tsuter do not read any of my past threads, as I am dumb enough to ask dumb questions but smart enough to be really embarassed by them later. It's tough being a doofus.

tsuter 02-16-2004 09:14 AM

Did you ask how much your car is worth too?? :)

Starless 02-16-2004 09:14 AM

I'm fairly new to this Porsche thing. I do searches before I ask questions but sometimes searches confuse more than help. Too much info on something that I'm really not asking. With attitudes like this I feel that I might be asking a really dumb question and shouldn't post. So I learn nothing. And I'm not about to start tearing something apart without knowing what I'm doing. So if my questions come across as stupid, just let me know. I'll hide in the closet and eat cheese sandwiches.

Superman 02-16-2004 09:21 AM

Do most 911s have the engine in the back?

Shuie 02-16-2004 09:24 AM

I cant remember the last time I didnt ask a stupid question around here. I keep searching old posts and cringing a little everytime I read one of mine.

Jim Sims 02-16-2004 09:25 AM

This board is a combination technical and "social" resource for people who have an interest in 911's. The people who patronize it come from very diverse backgrounds and experiences. The amount of technical content ebbs and flows but that's okay - we have a good set of moderators taht keep things on track and organized. Some contributors have a specific question or answer, others just want to see what's going on, some want to share a success repair or project, some need emotional support. As for "dumb" questions, that is one of the "evolved" purposes of this board: to help people learn how to think, analyze, and properly pose their questions. Such thinking skills are not taught to everyone and sometimes to really sort out a problem one needs to bounce "problems" off another person. In my work, I deal many very bright people (sometimes I feel like the village idiot) but even these geniuses seek out interaction and counsel from their colleagues. There are few trully dumb questions and everyone has asked a few. Be polite. Cheers, Jim

tsuter 02-16-2004 09:30 AM

Jeeez, only 1:28 to move to Off topic. Why do the "how much is my car worth?" threads last forever? :(

So, two polar bears are in a bathtub.

One bear says to the other, "pass the soap".

The other responds: "No soap, radio"

I hope that clears up your question.

Next!! :D

dd74 02-16-2004 09:31 AM

I think it's time to buy a Miata.

on-ramp 02-16-2004 09:33 AM

tsuter,

good thing you're not moderator around here. Otherwise we'd have a "stupid section" where most of these helpful threads would end up.

THAT is a stupid tech question.

I assume you're talking about this thread:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=148006&highlight=seat+b ack

Well, thanks for picking me. I feel so honored.

If you read the repsonses, there is some pretty good opinions/info. As far as your complaints, how exactly will sitting in a seat on a showroom floor (which I did btw) for 2 minutes give me significant insight into how the seat will feel on a 1 hour drive? Sure, everybody is different, but it is useful to get input from people who have done the experiment, or those who have had back pain. And my ht/wt were in the thread. Sorry you don't find that stimulating or "technical" reading. Then again, I'm not exactly the mechanical fountain of knowledge here...more like comic relief.

But you're right that your thread (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/139757-taking-height-out-your-seats-question.html) is a perfect example of the perfect question, and should be applauded. Rewarded in fact. We should all send you a check, or perhaps people will chip in to buy a plaque, honoring you, BRCarrera32, as the model Pelican...a person to be honored and admired...a goal towards which we should all aspire. Man, I wish I could be more like you...

Par911 02-16-2004 09:36 AM

Tsuter, will you sister go out with me?
Oops, another "stoopid" question!!:D

pwd72s 02-16-2004 09:37 AM

Because a lot of people here are interested in the used Porsche market...that might be why "how much is it worth" threads get almost as many responses as this one. 'Scuse me for getting a bit nasty here, but I also found your post starting this thread to be pretty effing arrogant. I hope somebody in the Porsche Industry hires you soon...while you still know everything.
