proper disposal of fuel

So when you end up with a water bottle half full of dirty gasoline, what is the govt. approved method of disposal?

(don't think I haven't contemplated the fun way out of this, but I am in enough trouble already )

store it in a glass bottle and cork it with a nice rag that hangs halfway down the bottle and half out. Now light the bottle and toss.

I don't know the real answer but I do know that Lowriders use it as the parts cleaner of choice.

When mixed with 5 quarts of used oil, it makes a superb fire starter for brush, or the trimmed branches from your apple tree. Gasoline works great on ant hills or yellowjacket holes, and is a fine weed/grass killer if you have any gravel or bricks with grass growing up through. Probably the gov't. frowns on all those alternative uses.

If you have some waste oil, mix it in with the oil and take it to an auto parts store for recycling.

AF Juvat, I heard that! I work in a parts store,they ( Oil Recyclers ) hate that, lol But, thats what I do, or kill weeds with it. I would say sell it to a ricer,they will buy ANYTHING.

call your local waste disposal office they should be able to tell you. They have rules and sites to drop off everything from batteries to old paint. At least thats how it is in Canada.

Looks like we have an optomist here - not only an optomist, but a concerned environmentalist.

I'd recommend getting a flat pan (like a metal cake pan or bread pan), pour between an eight to a quarter inch in the pan, and light it. Don't burn it in a glass bottle, as the bottle will probably break. You can also pour about 2 to 4 ounces into a paper cup - the cup will burn down with the gas and then you won't have any clean up.

Not an environmentalist, trust me. Just a guy who has paid enough $$$ to lawyers for one year. But I have conceded that I will be disposing of the gas in an "enlightening" fashion. Woo-hoo.

Our Land fills (here in calif ) accept dangerous chemicals, paints and excess fuel certain times during the week but you must pay a disposal fee.. Its not much ,,
