Question Lazy People and Shopping

I really wonder how lazy people truly are. I was at Costco today and driving through the parking lot and their was a shopping cart up on every curb in every parking space and in every planter. Really, how long does it truly take to put a shopping cart back in the stalls where they go after shopping is done. I am tired of having to risk dents and scratches to my cars. I already park away from everyone else but can we do something to just teach common courtesy when it comes to stuff like this. Any ideas??

I feel your pain, here in So Cal it seems that everyone has the attitude the world revolves around them. Courtesey is becoming a rare commodity.

It seems I stop at stop signs so others may just roll through the stop.

Also yesterday me and about 50 other cars got stuck behind a lady in a BMW who wanted to jump to the front of a line of cars. She blocked my lane to get over in to another lane she should have gotten in to a 1/2 mile ago. My light was green but since no one would let her over we just sat there until the light turned red and then someone finaly let her over. Who is she to hold up 50 other cars so she can get where she wants to go, I say wait your turn or get out of the ways of others.

Interesting because in Hong Kong it basically works the other way. Most people are courteous by allowing someone to move into a lane even if it holds up traffic - now this is probably because of two things
1. No point being in a rush to get anywhere here, there's too much stop and go traffic
2. If you miss your turn off you'll probably struggle to get where you want because there are often no second chances!

I think most people here relate to missing their turn-off so we tend to let people in regardless. Pretty rare to hear some blast their horn, road rage is pretty much no existent.

expathk,

The U.S. is full of ignorant, lazy, self-centered slobs. In my neck of the woods, some folks have eaten their way to an officially recognized disability, and have the wheel chair logo on their license plate to prove it.

Very few people, I feel, teach their children what it is to be a good citizen of society. I am often tempted to abandon all civility and courtesy myself, and join the mayhem, permanently extended middle digit at the ready.

Ed

PS. Aren't you about to discover this for yourself; ie. moving here?

I don't go to Costco unless the wife insists on dragging me there, the place is a frickin zoo. Getting in the parking lot takes more patience than I can muster. Wallmart is just as bad with maybe a lower common denominator.

I hope you have a car you don't care about the paint & dents that you can take shopping. If not why not take the bus? Unless your buying truck loads of crap you don't really need like everybody else.

costco doesnt count, the store inside is energy draining. and at least at my costco, shopping cart corrals are far and few inbetween.

but it happens at regular stores too. i still put my cart away properly, especially if the corral is downhill. hehe, still cant get the cart wheelie down pat!

Well I was going to save money but it ends up costing me more sometimes. I usually buy my microfiber towels from there and dog food. I always hope that by returning my cart at the store that I will set an example but so far nothing. Well I care about both my cars now - the Porsche - well you know and the VW because I am working so hard to pay it off. I wish we could amend driving rules and teach some people how to drive - I am not saying I am a great driver but a little courtesy sure goes a long way.

The problem's been overcome in Italian supermarkets. The trolleys are chained up in bays and it takes a 2 euro coin to release one. You get your coin back when you return the trolley and use the "thingy" that locks the chain to push your coin out It's a PITA when you can't find the right coin to get a trolley but it keeps the car park tidy and reduces damage to cars from trolleys.

Also a popular system in South Australia (not sure about the rest of Oz). Seems to work although another job that teenagers lose.

I refuse to go "brick and mortar" store shopping any more - especially on the weekend. Too many monkeys out there. Let the monkeys play in the zoo, I'll order online or take care of errands that require shopping during the week or something or via phone.

I don't even like going out driving on the weekend - same reason. All the stupid people on the road at the same time. The weekend is a good day to stay home, maybe take out the mountain bike, or go for a walk down the beach. Not go drive or shop thank you very much.

I can't stand Costco. Too crazy for me.

I do all my shopping late at night when there are no lines at the grocery store.

As for people being lazy. Yup.. people are pretty lazy these days. Have you heard in the news that obesity is creeping up on tobacco as the number one preventable cause of death here in the U.S.?

These days it seems that the only thing People want to do is sit on their couch, eat cheeseburgers and watch TV.

I've got some real lazy twat in my small block of units who pushes the trolly from the shops to the units (about 2 blocks) and takes it into the center section of the units (past the security gates) to the bottom of the stairs and then leves it there! If i work out who it is i'm going to give them a word or two.

Living in Long Beach as well, I understand. But do you order groceries online? We used to, but the two companys went out of business. I thought they were great.

Same thing at airports, but they're afriad to do it around here at the market. They think the shopper will go somewhere else. The jerks probably would. I would welcome the system.

I don't understand why people don't take one from the parking lot on their way in. Much more fun if its down hill.

No, unfortunately can't do groceries online, but I work right across from a Whole Foods market, so I just go there after work one day a week - that I can live with.

I live two blocks from 2 large grocery stores. One is a Safeway, & the other is a swanky store called Metropolitan Market (formerly Queen Anne Thriftway). They have alot of fancy imported stuff, pretty cool place to shop albeit spendy. It's really nice to be able to walk down to the store in a few minutes, day or night.

At least most people leave the cart at the store. I've got some rental property, and on a regular basis, someone is pushing the shopping cart down the street, and leaving the cart in the apartment parking lot.

I guess they've learned that I put it in my pick-up, and bring it back to the store, so they can do it again.

My biggest laugh is the people who continually troll the parking lot for a space closer to the store. I park farther out, and am already in the store, and there they are, still put-put-putting around in search of the elusive spot next to the door. Most of them could use the exercise of walking the extra 100 feet.

The airport idea would be a good thing and at least people would learn a little forced courtesy. It may hurt the pocket but you get your money back when you return a cart. I would return all the carts and make some extra money in my spare time. Their was a new idea that I heard about that would lock the wheels of the cart once they crossed a magnetic field of the shopping center. Hopefully enough of us setting examples will help some.
