Anyone here been watching the show PIMP MY RIDE on MTV?
It's pretty cool and entertaining - lots of automobile inspired TV programming these days....anyone have other favorites? |

I've seen the show a few times. It's not too bad. I wish we had the Speed channel in this area though

RE: Pimp My Ride
I used to cruise by West Coast Customs (Ingle-hood) all the time when I was dating my ex-girlfriend. You wanna talk about bling bling? There is always at least one H2 out front with 24+ inch rims. They're right off the 405 (Manchester exit), check 'em out if you're in the area. Be forewarned this isn't a performance orientated transformation TV show, it is all bling and no zing. Although WCC has the capability to make performance upgrades, I've never seen ONE performance upgrade installed on any of the shows. I give WCC props for doing what they do very very well. Their focus -especially in this TV show - is to be the "masters of bling", and that they are. I've seen a couple of their cars up close and their attention to detail (finishing) is impressive. On another note, I find it amusing when I hear people talk about WCC as "the customs shop from Pimp My Ride" or Jesse James as "the guy from Monster Garage". These two (WCC and West Coast Choppers) were fully established as biitchin' shops before the TV publicity. It's pretty cool that some kid in New Hampshire could be inspired to own/build choppers b/c of the TV exposure of a tattoed-bike-builder-former-bouncer from Long Beach. RE: My favorites Although I can enjoy the bling bling makeover shows I would love to see more serious performance upgrade shows, where it's all about horsepower and losing weight. There are two shows on Spike TV, Trucks! and ______ (cant' remember the name) where the focus is to build badass trucks and muscle car beasts. With little to no attention to LCD screens and drop down TVs. I guess I won''t be 100% satisfied until there is a show strictly dealing with 911 upgrades for the street and track. I can hope/wish/dream right?

The problem with most of the shows is that there is usually little to no content involving the creation or any product comparision.
On the other hand, (Boyd Coddingtons) American Hot-Rod (I think that was the name) had the camera watching over these craftsmen creating a whole 1930's body out of aluminum. Facinating.

Xzibit is the one pimping out the rides on "pimp my ride" so expect the bling and stupid modifications. Also, this is just an observation and not meant as any sort of racial attack on anyone but did you guys notice how they hooked the nerdy white guy up in the 1st episode (the ugly ass daihatsu van thingy) and since then it's all been black people or people who try to act black. I just found that funny.

Mu problem with this stuff is that they're all following the Americn Chopper model in lockstep:
1. Artificial 'deadline drama' 2. Every mis-step is a crisis 3. Showmanship over craftsmanship 4. Personality conflicts get more weight than the engineering. 5. Shows are edited to emphasize the moments of friction. 6. The 'stars' are starting to manage their public images (Boyd Coddington's self-serving voice-overs on American Hot Rod). Rides has its own problems. A huge-displacement engine was described as "1800ccs" rather than 18 liters. they need a technical advisor. Still, I watch 'em all. Real motorhead TV is a recent development and I want to support it.

Daihatsu HIGHJET fellas! Get it right!
When I see that thing I'm gonna tie it up to my SC bump and roll the hell out! It's gotta have at least $10k of goodies in it.
