Kerry.Kennedy..Sadr appreciates your support
Looks like the liberals have suckered the Iraqis into believing that our nation will not support our military. Sadr is actually quoting the democratic party line. The following was reported in The Austrailian regarding Sadr:
The cleric, whose militia followers have battled coalition and Iraqi security forces across the country for days, accused members of the US-appointed Iraqi Governing Council of being "collaborators" and said "they do not represent the Iraqi people". "I call upon the American people to stand beside their brethren, the Iraqi people, who are suffering an injustice by your rulers and the occupying army, to help them in the transfer of power to honest Iraqis," Sadr said in a statement issued by his office in the southern city of Najaf. "Otherwise, Iraq will be another Vietnam for America and the occupiers."

Well, no one said Sadr was an idiot. He's simply fighting rhetoric with rhetoric. After all, he is a newspaper man, and knows the power of communication over bullets. Or correction: Sadr was a newspaper man until the U.S. forces shut down his presses two weeks ago. That was a very bad move on our part. Shame! Shame!

LOL, I guess when fint can't put down a point for being wrong all he knows how to do is to attach it to messenger he can attack.
Perhaps fint will join the flat earth society if Sadr says next that the earth is round. Last edited by 350HP930; 04-07-2004 at 04:14 PM.. |

I actually think he is an idiot. Polls show that only 1% of his country supports him. That is even less than Nader. If his only way to judge support for the President and war in this country are network news and surfing the internet, he probably expects to spark an overthrow of the government here as well.

I sure would like to know how those iraqi pro-US polls work when most iraqis don't have phones and its not a good time for american contractors to be working door to door.

If you think about it a bit...attacking the messenger is exactly what you just did. I only pointed out that our enemies seem to quote your side often. I wonder why?

Yes, but one should consider the messenger as well as the message - left wing (predominantly) press; appealing to those who hate Bush, but truly have no viable alternative for him.
I think Sadr is smart - not Mensa smart ( ![]()

I agree to a point. His timing is good. He knows he cannot possibly win, so he has to break our will. He wisely spread his forces to attack throughout the country to make it appear the attacks were widespread and larger than they were. He made attacks on our weaker allies there particularly vicious in order to scare them away. The mistake he made was to underestimate support in this country based on the limited information he has.

You could also observe that it is some sort of coincidence that he would make those remarks immediately after they were spoken publicly by Mr. Kennedy and Kerry and given widespread publicity. I guess you would have to assume that a war in Vietnam before they were born is a common topic among Islamic clergy.

The spectre of Iraq as another Vietnam is not new. It is just more prominent in the news right now. You are asserting an unproveable link between the recent "quagmire" style quotes by liberals, and the Iraq as a Vietnam rhetoric from Sadr.

Yes, I will agree that it is not a provable link if you will concede it a strange coincidence that their talking points and timing seem to be the same.
I find it difficult for anyone to actually see any parallels with Vietnam....even Sadr. I don't even think any of the 3K’s: Kennedy, Kerry, or KKK (Byrd) really think there are many genuine parallels...they just assume their supporters and American voters are not too bright.

A quote by Sadr's relative, Hassan Nasrallah, (leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah): "We may be unable to drive the Americans out of Iraq. But we can drive George W. Bush out of the White House."
I guess that in addition to support from France, North Korea, and China.....Kerry is also supported by Hezbollah!

If this fighting is still going on at the time we're supposed to turn over Iraq back to the Iraqis on June 30th, then we've pulled out.
If the fighting is still going on and we cannot justify turning over the country, it'll be another Vietnam. The only way to quell this and beat the June 30 deadline, is to bomb and kill the Iraqis into submission. But like I've been telling you guys, you can't fight ideology.

I really didn't appreciate Kerry calling Sadr "a legitimate voice in Iraq" in an interview today either.....Sounds like "aid and comfort" to the enemy to me.

You must agree that the majority of Muslims would have a problem with Bush. And I'm not condoning what either Sadr or the Hizbollah do here either.

Bush should name Sadr the Head of State over the Iraqi council, declare "Mission Accomplished" again, and move the troops to the next venue. But only if he wants re-elected (or re-appointed, depending on your view).
Liberal and conservative alike support our military; of this I am certain, and a search of past threads on Saddam or Osama will prove it, with liberal after liberal giving testimony to such, the patriotic conservative stance being much more of a given. I might have said as much myself, yet I just haven't found the time to go volunteer at the VA hospital, and I haven't even found it in my heart to buy Mrs. Private First Class Jones a bag of groceries to help feed her 2.5 kids. Ah, well, as someone stated on another thread, "**** the poor". The men and women in the current administration, and their supporters, and any number of Islamic leaders share, to borrow a phrase, "dangerously passionate certainties". Bush's vision requires a clear and unquestionable diplomatic and civil victory to be deemed a success. For the Mullahs and insurgents, well, they need only continue to stir up that pot. Bush can nail Sadr, but two or three will take his place. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for the old Bushman. He be like, B'rer Rabbit an' de Tar Baby, but day ain't no briar patch in sight!
