Milu: "Maybe this problem really goes back to the crusades"
This IS the Crusades, Vol. 2 For anyone listening closely, GW has plainly stated that the U.S. is 'doing God's work' in Iraq.

Getting into this war was idiotic for a number of reasons, the largest of which is simply tactical constraint. We beat the crap out of Germany and Japan because we could go in and bomb everything that moved or didn't move to smithereens. We can't do that here, because we're not fighting a nation, we're fighting a nebulous "regime" which can't be isolated from the background noise, and we can't bear the political ramifications of "collateral damage." There should be a litmus test for invasion; are we pissed off enough at country X that we're willing to wipe every man, woman and child off the face of the map, and turn their country into a parking lot, and Amnesty International/UN/BoyScouts be damned? No? Maybe we should re-think invading country X. The tactics that worked so well for us in the 1770's are working very well being against us now.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains guidelines for waging a "Just War." I didn't write it, by the way, just reporting its existence. The Iraq conflict does not qualify as a "Just War," in my humble view.
