It's getting rave reviews. The 911 should be worried

Dang, I should have waited for the extra 10hp

Mine just passed the one year and 10k mile mark and I still love it!

Never has been. That was just a myth perpetuated by men (911 drivers) not 'secure' in their own manhood

Ha. So true.

Or, defending having paid much much more for the "prestige" of a 911. I tell people to drive a Boxster or Cayman through the twisties and if they don't appreciate the difference, they don't really comprehend chassis dynamics.

I consider myself a 911 guy.......not a 911 purist just always loved the 911. I have owned two of them and currently have a 83SC coupe. Love the history of the car and do enjoy driving it. January of this year picked up a 2002 Boxster S and it's hard to say anything negative about it. Modern creature comforts in a chassis that handles like a slot car, add to that a sweet 6 speed manual and a motor that pulls well and likes to rev is hard to beat. Put the top down and it's real easy to enjoy this car. I could care less what others think this chassis rocks !

Cool, I didn't realize that you have a Cayman S now. I love my 2008 Boxster S.

I'd only change 2 things about my car. I'd like the full monty stereo. I may eventually purchase a kit from Rod Birch at Caraudioinnovations for it.

And the big one... I really, REALLY wish it had limited slip. I keep wondering if different tires would have more grip. It's got Bridgestone RE050s that are only 1-2 years old on it now. I'd really like to have the traction of a LSD. My miata had an LSD, and even though this thing has 50% more power, it's also got a lot more tire. I'd like more traction when pulling out from a side street or in the rain. I loved the traction of the turbo miata, and even my old '88 911 that didn't have an LSD or as good a tire seemed to have more traction under certain circumstances.

Clearly, I don't have a problem with that since I've gone from a 911 to 2 different miata and now a boxster.

I am sure Porsche is doing some bean counting. If they are not careful the 911 will soon not be worth producing . Their mid engine car(s) will become more popular.

If they'd put the GT3 engine in the Cayman, I probably would trade my Turbo for that. I don't see it happening though.

Other people will do that for you, if you have the gumption.

Like i said, I bet Porsche is juggling what to do.....The days of the rear engine 911 might disappear.
They could add any engine they wanted, But Dont want to raise one market at the expense of doing an other to its end.
In the end i am sure as long as sales are good for the 911 it is safe....

The 911 is the halo car, it isn't going anywhere. Porsche tried to kill it once, that didn't work out so well.

Having owned the 996/997 and 986/987, I'd rate the 986/987 as the funnest of the modern Porsches. Superb balance, instant response, and a light and nimble feel that the 911 can't match. Fantastic cars.
