Oh, God. If big sunroof == targa, then every 944 was a targa....

Ok, I'll throw out the dissenting opinion: Porsche's decision to build an SUV isn't a "death of Porsche," but rather a demonstration of their versatility. I mean, look at the GT sequence (CGT, GT3...) and tell me those aren't "drivers cars." I would argue that Porsche still builds cars that are distinctly Porsche, but that they also build an SUV.
And before you tear it apart, one of the things I loved about Porsche from when I was tiny was the engineering -- some of the most beautifully engineered cars ever have come from these guys. Despite the Pepper-Wagen's SUV-ness, is it not the most perfectly engineered SUV alive? Is that not in holding with the incredible engineering that we've all come to know and love? Hasn't Porsche always appealed to yuppies? Why does it only bother us now? Dan, the Devil's Advocate (don's asbestos firesuit...)

Is the Touareg not an exact copy. I would be willing to wager VW did most of the development of the SUV.
The CGT, GT3, GT2 - all great cars. The cheapest one starts at $100K and that alone will limit the number that are considered drivers cars. Last GT2 I saw showed up at the show with bags on the tires and tape all over the front end. This was for the long 100 foot commute from the trailer to the parking spot. Quote:

Had a late night ride in a GT3 in Daytona last week. Porsche is not dead. Trust me.

Cegerer, who's parking lot is that? Those aren't all yours, are they?
Like I said, Porsche still builds incredibly well-engineered cars that are fantastically fun to drive. Inexpensive cars, available to everyone -- that's not Porsche. You're perhaps thinking of Mustang? (shrug) While we're on it, Porsche and VW have been in bed together their whole existence. Heck, the 356 was just a hopped-up Beetle, and the 914 was built in the same plant the Karmann's were. To say that a Porsche isn't a Porsche because it's just like a VW is a bit short-sighted, IMHO. Just throwing arguments out to spin the mix. I'm not a huge fan of the Touregenne, myself; I just don't believe that Porsche stopped being Porsche for the production of an SUV. Dan

That's the motel across from the Daytona Speedway. The GT3 is REALLY impressive. The sound - nothing like I've heard since an early S. The torque curve must begin around 1000RPMs and the redline is an incredible 8200. We weren't able to hit the 190MPH top end but we got illegal in a hurry ....

What I wanna know is when the heck is Porsche going to go back into racing?!? I've love to see a C-GT at LeMans this year, but I doubt it will happen....stupid bean counters at Porsche-AG

Hell I would have a little more respect for the Porsche Touareg if they would race it at the Dakar rally.
Porsche realizes they don't have the product to dominate and would rather grab the money off of truck sales

I do cede that point -- Porsche needs to get fully back into racing. I too would love to see a Touareg-Wagen at P-D, and a C-GT at Le Mans. I wonder if there's anything we can do to make our voice heard to the great Porsche-gods in the sky? Maybe a Pelican-petition?
