Good answer Island!

I have no problems in people voicing their opinions regarding peoples' choices of vehicles--only when people want to impose restrictions on what people should be allowed to purchase.

I want traffic laws set up to favor small lightweight vehicles and penalize heavy ones. I want owners of Hummers to understand that tailgating is an aggressive and life-threatening behavior, and it be penalized as such. I want...I want...world peace and a lot of money. Guess I'll have to settle for driving my old 911 out on the back roads, where the Hummers don't go. They're all on the smooth highway, in the fast lane. |
Those of us who have state laws requireing kids to ride in a car seat to the point where the kid is 6 years or 70 pounds are left with few choices. Those damn car seats are wider than a 350 pound person. Do you know how many sedans can accomodate three car seats? None. When the third child came we moved up to a (used) Expedition for the reason that it could hold three of those bulky suckers in the rear. Yes, minivans can carry plenty of car seats but I find them quite yucky. Plus, I like taking the family up in the mountains for camping, fishing, hiking (ok, short walks), etc. Expedition is great for that. The whole van thing wouldn't work once the tires were flat due to the poor roads or the snow got deeper than a few inches.

JTO - a well reasoned explanation of your purchase of an Expedition ..... however ...... there should be NO explanation necessary. If you want to buy an Expedition to drive all by yourself, never tow anything, never go off road and never drive in the snow, that's your choice as a US citizen. At least, for now it is ...... in the near future, we will have a new Federal Department - The Department of Vehicle Allocations. I envision Ralph Nadar as Chief Allocator ......

yeah, you're right. But, I'd rather drive a more responsive vehicle. When our needs change, so will the car. Thanks,

John Kerry doesn't have an SUV...his wife's estate does. Me? I like my gas hawg '77 4X4 Dodge Powerwagon...just don't drive it a lot these days, with premium at around $2.50 here, and it's slightly modified 360 yielding around 8 mpg. 10 mpg highway...
