Cool Any of you Porschephiles into watches as well?

I've been a watchnut for about 10 years now. Then one day I realized I could buy a nice car with what I had spent on watches. My addiction isn't quite as bad now . . . however I find myself obsessing into all things Porsche. I must have ordered a dozen 911 related items off of ebay in the last month or so. I'm now collecting diecast Porsches. Is there any end to this madness???!

No.

The important part is to enjoy it. If you get a Porsche tattoo as a permanent symbol of your addiction post a pic

Over the weekend, while shopping for a Mother's Day gift, I went into a "housewares accessories" store. You know the type: high-end writing paper, leather and expensive wood picture frames, calligraphy items, books on feng shui and how to psychoanalyze your landscaping - etc.

In a glass case were Porsche items - not MFI, Fuchs or a 3.2 crank, but pens, key fobs, wallets and money clips. There's a lot more to spend your money on when you're through with the car itself.

For example: they had a pen made out of the same material that stainless steel brake lines are made from. $170.00

Would they happen to have a website? What's the name of the store? I must test my self discipline. Thanks, love them toys!

Porsche Design watches have been made by Eterna (currently) and IWC. The watches hold their value rather well if purchased correctly. You will find the IWC watches will fetch quite a premium. I would suggest you post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the sales corner at www.timezone.com

Of course if you want to go to the less expensive side of things, you can always get a quartz "Porsche" watch on ebay. These aren't very well made . . . and if you're into Porsche, ya might as well get a timepiece befitting our beloved automobile. Send me an email if you'd like to discuss further.

I used to collect watches. I think my favorite was my Rolex Yachtmaster. I had a Rolex sub, the Yacht, and a datejust and one Airking. I still have one.

Good luck,

A fine swiss watch complements a Porsche very nicely.
Omega Seamaster Professional
Omega Speedmaster
Heuer Monaco (to be like Steve McQueen in La Mans!)

Just wish it was acceptable to wear more than one at a time.

cyberpaper.com is the website, but honestly, you can get this stuff anywhere.

Porsche watches (or at least the internals) in "Watch Time" magazine, have been rated as some of the best chronograph watches ever made. I'd definitely take one over the piece of ***** Heuer I have. It's just all the bling bling Porsche insignia all over the watch that hesitates me - but I guess that's part of the fun, eh?

Have to agree on the Yachtmaster, very cool watch but I am pretty happy with my 18 year old Seadweller. I almost wish this thing would break so I'd have a legitimate reason to get something else. I was pleasantly shocked to find out they'd give me MORE than I paid for it if I bought a new watch. Unfortunately there's no way I can afford a new watch.

Send a message via Yahoo to 84porsche
Don't forget sunglasses to go with the watch - I have a pair of Carrera Sunglasses - you can guess why I bought them.

Porsche Design watches (and other PD stuff) doesn't "go" with my 911, IMHO. My (1989) 911 is a classic design, with function foremost and styling secondary, and very little "design-school" feel. PD watches are overtly "styled" and look like they're trying too hard to "look cool". My watch choice is a classic Seiko diver - a functional tool watch that has kept a consistent look for 3 decades.

Love my PAT. Weighs very little, looks techy but unobtrustive and keeps perfect time (like, 1 sec every six months). I know that since it's a mass-produced Eterna, it'll never be collectible. But then, neither will my 911, so I guess they kind of go together...

Check out an IWC pilots watch. I have a classic dialed UTC. I think it has all the clean subtle characteristics that you'd love email if you'd like a scan.

I'm into Tag Heuers. I've got the regular F1 chronograph and a Monaco, the one Steve McQueen wore in LeMans and a SEL McLaren limited edition chronograph. All 3 were very nice gifts from my wife! She's great!

I have a Rolex Submariner that I bought new years ago, But I'm into Collecting Antique American clocks amoung other things

Here's a pic of an E. Howard # 5 Banjo clock I scored recently. I wasn't even looking and ran across it in an old Antique shop that was closing down.
It's dated 1873 and all original. A real score for a clocknut as it's amost impossible to find them that have the original glasses and finish. It's Kinda like finding an original 72 S in a barn only it's a 100 years older.
