met drew carrey today.....sort of

ok so we didn't speak but......
michelle (girlfriend) works part time at cedar point amusement park (most coasters in the US) so we made an evening visit there.
we were in line for millenium force when she points out drew carrey in line behind us..........
he was in total stealth mode......windbreaker with hood up....
he knew he was spotted by us, through grins and eye contact......but we left him alone
that is until we were riding and as the coaster flew past the platform i yelled his name loud.....he had to have heard me as i can be a loud bastard sometimes.......hope i didn't ruin his evening
drew's a funny guy..........but i didn't have the heart to ruin his perfect stealth thing he had going on.

would you "bother" a celebrity if they were in stealth mode?

I work for a major motion picture and TV studio in Burbank, CA (my boss is a rodent, if you can guess which one). Anyway, I do motion picture and TV production safety on the set. I see "Stars" all day long, and I never bother the talent. They're working too hard on their lines, I've introduced myself to a few, and most rememeber my name, but if they don't, I don't take it personally, they have too much on their minds. I've seem Drew Carey at Warner Bros. plenty of times, and he is nice enough, but likes his privacy. An unwritten rule at the studios, is that you don't bother the Talent, and never, never ask for an autograph.

I met Craig Nelson once in Charlotte NC. He was in stealth mode as well. I assumed he was intown for the races. He was a pretty cool guy. Didn't draw any attention to him and we spoke for a few minutes.

Actually he was in town to race

The most famous person I've seen recently was Sean Connery. He was at Ibrox (rangers' footy stadium) and being mobbed by the press & young girls. Not exactly stealthy.

What the hell is the big deal about someone who appears on a TV show or a movie, then millions of people sit on their ass for an hour or two to make them famous? I don't get it.

A real celebrity is someone who actually makes a difference. I'll call Bono a real celebrity.

I live on the west side, see them all the time - it's neat but I try to give them the respect of space I expect myself.

One time the Wife and I were wandering around Westchester before a movie and we ran into Jay Leno doing a skit and I totally just pointed (not 10 feet away from him) and said to her "That's Jay Leno!" She was quite mortified - it was hilarious. He didn't even acknowledge it.

Another time I was in a mexican resturant (El Coyote I think) and I was coming around a corner and ran completely headlong into Famke Jansen. THAT was pretty damn cool. I didn't even know who she was until I was outside waiting for the car... She was apologetic, as was I, she was with Vince Vaughn too - him I recognized.

I met Arianna Huffington yesterday...sort of.

Big Kerry fundraiser. I volunteered & took checks. She spoke. Very funny. Has a new book of facts embarrassing to politicians.

Obviously, you're not sitting on your ass watching enough celebrities . From Stripes:

Psycho: The name's Francis Sawyer, but everybody calls me Psycho. Any of you guys call me Francis, and I'll kill you.

Leon: Ooooooh.

Psycho: You just made the list, buddy. Also, I don't like no one touching my stuff. So just keep your meathooks off. If I catch any of you guys in my stuff, I'll kill you. And I don't like nobody touching me. Any of you homos touch me, and I'll kill you.

Sergeant Hulka: Lighten up, Francis.

I've never understood the celebrity thing either. They're just people. A lot of pro athletes work out at my health club. It's silly how people come up to Donovan McNabb and act like they're his best friend. He's very nice about it, but I have to think it must get really old.

Meeting a rap star today will be like meeting with Ratt or Stryper tomorrow... most will be washed up in in 5 years (with a couple exceptions). Mark my words.

i saw richard jennings walking thru the casino (the comedian) in las vegas. he just aired platypus man on HBO. i stood up and screamed exactly that at the top of my lungs during a quiet keno game. he gave me the finger. i was wasted, mixing scotch and tequila.

I saw Prince walking through LAX about a decade ago with his entourage. I thought he was a girl at first because he's so short and slight but that thin mustache and short purple tuxedo jacket was a dead giveaway. I couldn't get close if I wanted to without getting my neck broken by his body guards.

I saw Clint Eastwood at the Claremont Resort in the Berkeley Hills. I was going to ask for an autograph but he scrambled away so fast that I was surprised an old man can move that way through a small crowd. He's about the only guy I'd ask for a sig, except for Ahnold, maybe.

Arianna Huffington.... Let's see this that would be the woman who chastizes people for driving SUVs instead of a hybrid (not that I think that's necessarily bad, I dislike SUVs unless you have a real need for them, boat, trailer, off road) yet she has a 10,000 sq. ft. home with 4 or 5 central HVAC systems.

robin williams bought his reptiles from some store i used to manage. he ordered a breeding pair of red foot tortoises, they come in and my boss calls his assistant. RW shows up, very excited. while he is being rang up by the bosses, he wanders off to look for some stuff. i go up to him and whisper, "mr williams, both those tortoises are males". he winks at me and goes to the register to tell my con artist bosses that he changed his mind. i never saw him again.

i smashed my golf clubs into robin quivers (by accident...wearing shoulder straps) on an elevator at mandalay bay. she couldn't have been nicer. laughed, asked how golf game was. joked a little bit. bumped into steve buscemi at 4 seasons in LA (visiting someone...not staying there...too much $$$) he was really cool. sat apres ski at a table next to emilio estevez and his crew of d-bags at the base of park city...what a friggin tool that guy was. he WANTED people to notice him...we all purposely averted eyes. finally, best one ever was mid mountain at aspen my sister notices that photographer herb ritts is at a table near ours. she being a photographer jumps up and asks him to snap a pic of us w/disposable camera. one of his companions says "you have no idea what that picture will be worth".

some 10 years later, little sis moves to LA, starts "assisting on photo shoots" and eventually takes job for herb ritts. she produces picture to which he signs and it is now framed. i think he died a few years ago. sorry for rambling but kinda cool celebrity story.
