THEREFORE MAY 19THHAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM DAY"AND THE
PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

Thanks Kurt, I sent the link back to my buddy. On the surface it sounds like a good idea, I think a lot of people are feeling a bit screwed & it would be nice to be able to fight back.

Why not stick it to them often and take the bus to work every few days. In a lot of cases the argument that public transportation sucks is not true. I live in LA, a city with one of the worst Mass transit systems ever and I take the bus at least 4 days a week (wife's pregnant so we have at least one appointment a week that I need to drive to). I drive to the park and ride (~2 miles) then I take the Commuter bus in to work. Granted I don't have to go anywhere during the day normally so that makes it easier for me but still. The first month I started taking the bus we saved ~$180 in gas including my bus fare ($32.00 a month). In the event that I want to meet the wife for dinner somewhere after work there are a ton of buses I could take. I've taken the bus on the way home to Westchester, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, etc...

It isn't as much fun as driving the porsche but when I drive to work I rarely get out of second gear which is quite lame. So, on the way to work and on the way home I take a nice little 20 minute nap or I read a little or talk to whomever is sitting next to me.

Seriously, if you want to reduce the price reduce the demand.

CArpool, take the bus and get a car that gets better gas mileage in town.

Honestly - Do we really think the GWB has NOTHING to do with the price of Gas these days? I find it truely remarkable that I rarely hear anything regarding this man's connection to the price of oil. For crying out loud he's an oil tycoon. Why would he want to reduce the price of oil in any way shape or form? Now, not only is he making money off of it but he's collecting more taxes for it as well.

If anyone wants to be a responsible consumer, it's going to take more than standing-up¹ for more than one day. . .. it needs to be on-going habits.

Driving less, consolidation trips, slowing down, highest reasonable tire pressure, driving less, and driving less should help. . .though not as much as driving less.

I've also heard that a lot of people have traded-in their gas hogs, for econo-car, just on princlple. (funny; trading in the range-rover for a new VW turbo-diesel .. . it's not like they can't afford the gas)

Hey, this is a great idea! Everyone knows that a loss to the oil companies won't trickle down to the consumer. This way of thinking is definitely in the consumers best interest!

That sounds like something a liberal would say about tax-cuts. (ie Less record profits are a loss to the oil companies . )

All it means is that the small number pf people participating will purchase their gas on the 20th instead of the 19th.

This will not 'send a signal.'

We would have a bigger effect on the gasoline marketplace if we all made sure our tires were carrying the full amount of air pressure.

It's simple economics. If demand is less than the supply the price has to compete for business.

The problem is that the oil business is very dynamic. They can reduce supply very easily to meet what demand is - then if demand increases even slightly the price simply goes up - regardless of if the demand is met or not.

Either way, I won't need gas for a week, so I'm good. My base of operations has shrunk. I drove something like 6000 business miles last year and I work from home, so when I start out, I'm deducting. That's in the truck. The P-cars sit most of the time as well. No big users there. My wife needs to go 8 miles one way to work in her daily driver, but manages to do about 15000 anually. There must be a lot of stuff to do in a woman's world.

BTW, her boss drives about 80 miles one way, but he does car pool his wife. He spends 2 1/2 hrs going home 5 days a week. Insane.

If we all sold our Porsches ..... now that would send a signal to Bush and his Big Oil cronies ..... let's face it, how many of us actually use these as daily drivers (and if you do, why?!) ? We're just out there burning up precious mideast fossil fuel for our own cheap thrills .....

In order to sell our Porsche's, someone else would have to buy them. Doesn't solve the problem. keep them, do not license them and don't buy gas for them.

I'm okay with this. Really. The quicker we burn up all the fossil fuels the sooner we can seriously take a look at electric and hydrogen vehicles. Until then there really won't be a realistic demand for them. Everyone take the long way home from work I say.

I've seen a lot more cyclists out making a difference. . . commuters, guys & gals in sweats. I think it's great on so many levels. (why drive to work, and then to the gym?)

Actually, bicycling is a concept I agree with. More bike paths in my area would make a much bigger difference on our traffic congestion than the downtown-to-shopping mall light-rail transit system they're building here now.

And it would leave more fossil fuels for me to burn.

Well, if you do make it out this way, you will find it similar. Some pretty good bike paths, built on old, ripped out rail ways. . ...meanwhile, the city region is sapping out Billions for a new train, that only goes the distance of a good bike ride.
